The Blu-ray spec was updated to include 3D, UHD Blu would be no different: it doesn't matter what's in there at the moment as long as they can jury rig the new features to work with UHD's bandwidth constraints. Then, as with 3D BD, you'd need a new player and TV to use those features that are part of the new spec unless you had a player with architecture that allowed it to be retrofitted, like with the PS3 and 3D (though that implementation wasn't perfect).

that would be really cool.
The only way I see 4K 3D happening with the current tvs is the aforementioned side-by-side format. btw, I have it on good authority that certain kinds of entertainment websites are already making content like that. |

Trouble is, if UHD 3D follows the similar frame packed spec as BD 3D then even those sets will be shit out of luck - barring another one connect box update for Samsung owners, natch. SBS is one thing, but accepting/processing something like a 3840x4365 signal (2x 2160 frame packed in the vertical with 45 blanking lines to separate them) is way beyond anything on the consumer market at the moment. That's what I mean by needing a new TV and new player (certain Sammy TVs aside) IF UHD 3D ever comes along, that sort of compatibility simply does not exist right now and can't easily be added after the fact. |

How would the players help if the TV doesn't support it? Don't tell me you plan to put on a SBS 4K image (which any 4K TV wouldn't have trouble displaying 'as is' because it's just a flat 3840x2160 image) and cross your eyes the whole time?

IMDB says this was finished at 2K. So there are three possibilities I can think of:
1) IMDB is wrong and this was finished at 4K (for the 2D version, at least) 2) This was finished at 2K and the UHD will be presented at 2K, but with better color and compression than the Blu-Ray 3) The 2K master was upscaled to 4K for the UHD. |

I am not aware of any 4k screenings of the film. I if it was finished in 4k I SHOULD have known about it.
Oblivion was definitely 2k, pretty sure Prometheus was too. Not sure about the Counselor. It's easier to do a 4k finish when the film isn't full of CGI and VFX. |
