Of course, that's if the SF release is the unrated cut. Can you at least tell us that, Cliff?

I doubt he would tell people to hold off on the overseas uncut edition if theirs wasn't going to be uncut.

I know, but it would be nice to get confirmation. I doubt it would be this, but I've seen other companies release cut versions of films, and try and make up for it by loading it with extras.

Maybe he was not able to chime in until then ? Labels just cant post titles unless the studio gives them the green light.

I was about to post the same thing. Plus, he's not obligated to post some sort of pre-release confirmation/hint every time someone mentions a disc that Scream have also acquired the rights to.

DVD Beaver have a Mr. Majestyk comparison up. The extras make the Signal One edition the one to buy. Unfortunately it only dropped down to 13 pounds on Amazon for a couple of days, and is now back to £19.68.

All of Kino's transfers seem to be overly bright for some reason... Same with their Blu of Deranged. Looks identical to Arrow's, but brighter.

I got the Japanese blu-ray of "Farewell Friend" within 3 days and I got to say that the picture quality of the Blu-ray is very good, especially the outdoor scenes.

It´s a pity though that I don´t understand French because there´s a 30 minute talk of the director who tells some anecdotes about the movie.

Of course, I don´t understand anything

Is the Spanish blu of Death Wish II (Yo Soy La Justicia) uncut? I have the Spanish DVD from a decade ago with the same title and that's uncut.

Already having the Kino, there doesn't seem to be enough there to make a re-purchase worth the money.

Anyone have more details/opinions on this release of Violent City? https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Citta...Blu-ray/26358/

This is one of my most wanted pick ups for blu and it seems to be a good release so far. Not sure if any other company will be putting this out any time soon.

It's great. Nice film-like transfer from Ripley.

There's been a few different threads discussing it here:

Yesterday, I watched Messenger of Death and Kinjite: Forbidden Subjects.

I posted my thoughts on these Olive Films Blu-rays in another thread, but here they are...

[Show spoiler]I just finished watching the Olive Films Blu-ray of Messenger of Death.

Messenger of Death kicks off with a chillingly brutal sequence of women and children being murdered by a mysterious pair of gunmen, and the biggest asset to the movie is that the power of this first scene reverberates for the duration of the story. Charles Bronson does not go around killing the perpetrators, and, instead, he simply figures things out. Still, the tone of his character is befitting of his age at the time, and he does come through with a solid fight toward the conclusion. This film is benefited by a strong supporting cast and cool location shots, even if it never really blasts off in the way that earlier Bronson films did. Bronson gives it his all, and that's good enough.

The Blu-ray transfer is no great shakes in terms of either video or audio, but it looks just fine considering the source material and considering that era of Cannon Films. I'd like to seen a subtitle option, but, sadly, that is not to be.

...

After watching Messenger of Death yesterday, I went for a double feature by going straight for my Olive Films Blu-ray of Kinjite: Forbidden Subjects.

I love me some 1980s sleaze, but this movie made me a little sick to my stomach because of some of the subject matter, particularly the plot element of the missing Japanese girl. The behavior of Bronson's character during many scenes was also a tough pill to swallow.

I'll attempt to justify this, however, by calling this movie a neo-noir where Bronson's character is the antihero, and things do not necessarily end well. That was probably close to the intent of the filmmakers anyway.

As with most of the Cannon Films titles from that era, Kinjiti: Forbidden Subjects is never boring. The movie presents us with a totally different set of givens and rules that would never fly in the real world, but we roll with them, because it's an entertaining flick. Bronson would have been fired several times over, or even imprisoned, had this happened in real life. Just the same, the actual villains in the film are so vile that it's easy to wish their cinematic fates on them.

As icky as some of the plot elements were, I'll say that I appreciated the "Hey, that's somebody's daughter, and this could happen to your daughter, too." approach of the movie that should, ideally, be a wake-up call to a lot of dudes out there.

The Blu-ray transfer of Kinjite: Forbidden Subjects is way better than that of Messenger of Death. The audio and the video presentations are both quite excellent.

Good work on these Bronson films, Olive!

In a nutshell, these are both solid discs, with Kinjite: Forbidden Subjects receiving the best high definition transfer.

For those who don't want to wait for the Scream/Shout SE, the uncut German disc of Death Wish 2 played on my Region A player despite being labelled as Region B on the back.

I was able to get 2 and 3 from them on Wednesday and now picked up 4 and 5 today. I can't wait to dig into these and how great they'll look on the shelves.
