Sony gave us Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, which are still two of my absolute most favorite superhero movies. It's funny how "what have you done for me lately?" people are.

I really wish they had just retroactively added the Maguire films to the MCU and either had him as a veteran or had him retire and train Miles Morales.
The only Spider-Man I wanna see on film is Peter Parker. I love Spider-Man as he's my favorite Marvel hero but don't like or care for the Miles Morales character. Im looking forward to this a lot as ive enjoyed every Spider-Man film so far, even SM3 & Amazing 1 & 2.

Whilst I like the Toby Maguire Spider-Man movies, they were never to the quality of the Marvel films released now. Also: The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel were terrible ideas; if another Sony-only Spider-Man reboot was being made, chances are it would flop. The original Spider-Man films would have been nothing without Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire.

I don't mind Miles Morales as long as they don't start with him as Spider-Man (which we know they're not anyway). He's no Peter Parker but definitely the best for a passing-on-the-torch character.

They will never top off the Nolan trilogy, good luck.

At first I was quite annoyed that Spider-Man was being rebooted again so soon after it had already been rebooted but when I read that Marvel were doing it this time and that they're bringing Spidey into the MCU I was very up for it and I still am.

With that being said can we please have some different villains this time. Spidey's got one of the best rogue galleries in comic book history and on screen we've only seen The Green Goblin (twice!), Doc Ock, Rhino, Sandman and Venom *shudders*.

The funny thing is though I say that they should use new villains this time but I also want to see Venom done properly this time and also have Carnage brought in as well. That would be absolutely amazing if done right.

You've forgot about The Amazing Spider-Man, that was released in 2012, and the sequel; The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014.

I would love for Sam Raimi's Spidy to be incorporated into the MCU. I always wanted Spider-man 4, it would have been great to have it linked with the MCU.

If the new Spider-Man film series ends up doing well and is popular with fans I can honestly see the Andrew Garfield series become the black sheep of the Spider-Man family 25-30 years from now.

Everyone will remember the new series and the Tobey Maguire one but I can't see many people remembering the Garfield one.

Whilst I find the Garfield films entertaining I do think that Spider-Man was rebooted far too soon.

Remember when The Amazing Spider-Man came out and everybody was jerking it off and saying it was better than the Raimi films?

Lolololololololol. Shows how fickle people are because they forgot it existed when the second one underperformed. I've always thought Raimi's Spider-Man 2 was the best. I love, love, love that film.

I see some people are still thinking it would have been best if Tobey returned in the role.

Tobey was a somewhat decent Parker/Spider-Man at best, would have been better if he didn't cry as much. That was quite a few years ago to where it wouldn't make much sense to introduce Parker with that actor in the role after all that time.

I'm honestly considering selling my copy of The Amazing Spider-Man for that very reason. While I found it to be a solid film, I do not consider it to be on the same level as Raimi's first two films, and I never have. I know I can always return to those first two Raimi films and find enjoyment, but The Amazing Spider-Man 2 left such a bad taste in my mouth that I honestly don't think I can ever find enjoyment in the first Amazing installment ever again. I know in the future I'm going to pretend that series never existed and I will focus solely on Raimi's work and (hopefully) the Spider-Man of the MCU.

I'm in the same boat. When I see it on my movie shelf it bugs me. I did enjoy the film and prefer Garfield in the role a bit more than Tobey but the sequel kind of ruins the first one.

Watching the first one on it's own with nothing good to follow it just doesn't interest me much at all. Would rather watch the first two Raimi films.

I liked both of Webb's films, and I agree about Raimi's first two being great. Unfortunately, his third effort was just overpacked like crazy, thanks in no small part to Avi Arad and the Sony execs. That movie would've been so much better, if Harry and the Sandman had been the main antagonists like Raimi wanted.

Sony making this deal with Marvel to allow Spiderman in their upcoming films seems like a really smart deal. If he has a good showing, even if it's a short one, it'll really help pique interest in their next reboot.
That said, I've liked all of the Spiderman films on at least some level. The Raimi/Maguire combo being my favorite. I would like to see the Green Goblin done right though. It's been attempted twice but has never lived up to the character. He's a great villain and one of my favorites. Kraven the Hunter would also be good for a first appearance.

If my train of thought is correct, there won't be another reboot for quite some time; the version of Spidey seen in "Civil War" will be the same character depicted in the new solo films. Continuity will be shared by both Marvel and Sony, similar to William Hurt returning as Ross from "The Incredible Hulk" even though Universal still owns that one.

My personal ranking of the five Spider-man films to date is from best to worst:

1. Spider-Man 2
2. Spider-Man
3. The Amazing Spider-Man
4. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
5. Spider-Man 3

Spider-Man 3 is my least favourite mainly due to shockingly awful portrayal of Eddie Brock/Venom.

Who's idea was it cast Topher Grace as Eddie Brock. I've got nothing against the guy but he was majorly miscast.

Not to mention that the plot is pretty messy as well.

And emo Peter *shudders*.

That list is a little misleading. I'm assuming you're starting with the 1930s/40s batman shorts and ending with Burton's batman? Same with Superman 40s to 70s?? Also the hulk "movie" from 1977 was a backdoor pilot for the TV show that wasn't released to theaters (in the US).

You don't mention how quickly Batman was rebooted from '97 to '05, and you also apparently don't count the Batman movie from the 60s which WAS released in theaters.
