Anyone know of any other German only releases that are noir or semi-noir.....or otherwise worth owning?

Not German, but the French release of the excellent Gun Crazy still hasn't been released outside of France without the book, which makes it a very expensive purchase. There is a Spanish release, but its probably a pirate release of the French one.

A Simple Plan (1998) is an excellent neo-noir that has only been released on blu-ray in Germany.

Strange Days (1995) is another German-only release that you might find worth picking up.

Such a great film, one of my favorites. I recommend watching it as a double feature with Blade Runner. A crime that it hasn't been released domestically.

D'oh. I also own the Film Detective Blu-ray of Hollow Triumph, and it's actually my favorite of the three that I have.

Hollow Triumph is a solid awesome film noir in every way.

And if you have the right edition, you can watch two different versions during your double-feature!

Watched The Big Combo today. What a great noir film, low-key but expressive and tense. John Alton is truly a great of cinematography and the transfer was really great too.

Why do they insist on ruining good cover art with "Archive Collection" on their covers?

I don't mind the Archive banner... it is at least tasteful and simple. besides the fact the WB Archive titles are better than sell thru titles so I don't mind the banner.

Just announced from Olive for release on April 19:

Hopefully, Olive will use the Film Noir Foundation's 2012 restoration.

Olive also announced Dead Pigeon on Beethoven Street from Sam Fuller, which sounds like a bit of a spoof of noir films. Anyone seen it?

Quote:
Fuller's sole film comedy is a delightfully self-conscious and satiric detective thriller, a low-budget neo-noir confection funded by the popular German television series Tatort and buoyed by a lighter strand of the bold Pop sensibility defined in The Naked Kiss and Shock Corridor. Dead Pigeon on Beethoven Street is perhaps best understood, in Fuller's own words, as a "cartoon caper,” with Fuller outdoing even himself in outlandish action sequences—such as a gunfight in a maternity ward—and a cast of loony caricatures led by The Crimson Kimono’s Glenn Corbett, as a bumbling American detective in Berlin to track down his ex-partner's killers, and Fuller's wife Christa Lang as the beautiful and mysterious fräulein guide to the Berlin underworld. All-too-long unseen in its true form, Dead Pigeon has recently been expertly restored by the UCLA Film & Television Archive, who reconstructed Fuller's director's cut with the addition of twenty-five minutes that had been removed for the film's original release. DCP of the digitally remastered long version courtesy of the UCLA Film & Television Archive.
