LCD or PLASMA?

plasmas can get dead pixels as well.

But this should not be a decision maker/breaker. My vote would be for a Plasma, but I would have no issue with an LCD either.

I didn't realize that plasmas had the same problem. I guess I haven't read enough.

LCD's have a transistor for every pixel... if anything happens to that active device the pixel will show it. Not only that... every transistor must not only be not dead, but biased properly too otherwise you get patches of permament clouds or slightly different looking pixels. Anyways... plasma is just electrons exciting gas which in turn excites phosphors... not as likely to die or have biasing issues.

I started with LCD... and now have plasma. I am biased towards plasma for the true to life color accuracy, speed, and no non-sense specs. Plasma is not relying on all the motion compensation schemes and on and on to display a speedy picture. The more I watch my TV and the more I remember the sharp I previously hyad the happier I get.

I had a Sharp Aqous as well, before I bought my Panasonic. I will never regret that upgrade. I love my plasma.

I love my plasma too... it makes movies come alive, much better viewing angle. The pluses are a lot more. I play video games, watch TV, do blu movies and rarely get retention if it barely lasts a moment at all. Burn in will never happen for me... I never had burn-in on my CRT EITHER!!! If used normally a plasma should never get burn-in these days for a new panasonic or pioneer... they have anti-retention technology invisible to the eye... usually a pixel shifting technique... it is listed in the specs.
My next TV will be a plasma I know it. LCD has lousy contrast, viewing angles, and color balance. EVen the Cathode tube doesn't produce a 100% perfect white light that it relys on to generate all colors. LCD must start with white and then subtract levels of R G B using filters. On a plasma it is easier to just add levels of R G B to get white.
Anyways... I will do pioneer next time... or maybe panasonic. We'll see what the next gen brings :-)

Eventhough I love my plasma, I will be open to any of the newest technologies when I eventually replace my tv. OLED might be available(I know its available, but I mean in larger sizes), LED backlit LCD's are supposed to be pretty good, Laser TVs are coming around as well. You never know what the future brings. So, I will look at all my options and see whats available that I could afford, and give me the best picture for the money.

If I was to buy a new tv right now, it would be another plasma.
