I would agree with this for the most part and certainly as a general rule of thunb. However, my room is quite bright (although no direct sunlight) and I have no issues at all with my plasma display.

This whole issue of room brightness(light) sounds more to me as one created by the LCD camp. Remember the days when CRT was king and, in fact, pretty much the only game in town? We placed our TV's where we wanted and we just closed the curtains if the "light" bothered us.

i have to say plasma.

i owned 2 lcd sets before my plasma and was never completely happy with them! the main problem with lcd was the motion blur issues that still plague the sets (even the 120hz sets) colors are not as accurate and blacks are not as deep on lcd

Plasma does not suffer from motion blur, the color pallets on plasma are the most realistic you will get and the blacks are the blackest you will find.

Both technologies suffer from dead pixels. LCD more so than plasma but plasma can still suffer with dead pixels.

Plasmas on the other hand can get Image retention! Now lets not get image retention and burn in mixed up here! Burn in is almost impossible to achieve on plasmas now. yes it CAN happen if you are completely reckless with the TV, but a static image will take 15-20 hours to burn in to the screen. LCD can also suffer from burn in as well

Now image retention. If you follow the 100 hour break in procedure on plasma's you will not have to worry bout IR. I have about 450-500 hours on my plasma now and have never had any image retention. All you have to do is make sure the settings are not above 50 on the contrast, brightness etc and that no black bars are present for the first 100 hours, then you will be golden. The reason you need to do this is so that the phosphors can get an even burn at the beginning of the tv's life! A little bit of patience in the beginning will ensure that you plasma gives you the bet possible picture you can get!

At the end of the day though it is personal preference. I prefer plasmas over LCD because of the wonderful, true to life color pallet, i also enjoy not having motion blur. Others enjoy the vivid colors LCD. it is all down to your personal taste!

I guess my choice is the camp of impartiallity. Really this thread you created is every Plasma owner saying LCD sucks and LCD owners saying how much they love their LCD.

I say go with what you really want. Both have pros and cons and both look great when you get it in your living room and play movies. IF you do buy an LCD make sure you turn on the xvYCC color because it really make the picture look better and true to life. If you go Plasma, make sure you calibrate, cause the 2 I saw not calibrated, didn't look that great. The other 2 I saw that were looked great.

Enjoy, and no second guessing.

I know but I didn't mean to create this back and forth between two camps. All I wanted to know is about pixels which has been answered very well.

Yes, I agree either type would look great in my viewing room. I have now decided which to buy.

My first HDTV was an LCD (Samsung LNT-4061f) Now I have a Panasonic Plasma (85u) there is no way i'll ever go back to LCD. Plasma's are simply amazing

though im still deciding between the XMB8 in my sig, and a pioneer 60" kuro. i play way to much games for plasma, but i still might say whatever and get the kuro
