I just realized that history could possibly end up sending Indiana Jones to 'Nam in the next movie. Oh dear god...

Although, if we get a 70-year-old Indiana Jones in his underwear freaking out and doing tai chi in his hotel room I may be on board.

I thought the same thing. Online posts I've seen speculate 1971.

All first three films dealt with religious artifacts, I was glad to see something different (aliens) in KOTCS.

LEAKED PLOT SUMMARY:

Film begins at Marion's grave. Indy talks to her for a bit, then Indy goes to the bar/restaurant he's opened in her name. While feeding diners, he tells stories of the past. Then, ESPN shows a video game simulation of Indy vs. Belloq the Third. The simulated Indy beats the grandson of Belloq in retrieving Chester A. Arthur's college transcripts. Inspired by this, Indy begins a grueling training regimen and finally faces off against Belloq III in a quest to obtain The Mattress of Indifference -- the mattress used by Padre Miguel Muy Mal Mongoose who slept while others were fighting off Q: The Winged Serpent. Belloq III obtains the mattress and Indy loses, but Belloq III quickly falls asleep and is consumed by slightly bored 400-year-old bed-bugs. Indy returns to Marion's grave, and tells her: "Yo, Marion. I'm still collecting your Social Security. We did it."

Roll credits.

Someone previously (probably on this forum somewhere) mentioned the idea of a story of Indy having to face someone or find something that he already had an encounter with in his past, which would set up an old Indy/young Indy type of premise for the film. And that would require them to cast a new Indy to take the franchise forward to continue making movies about adventures from his younger OT days. That honestly sounds like the best idea, I hope they do something like that. No idea who would play Indy, TBH I think he's a more difficult character to play and more identifiable with Ford than Han Solo is.

I'm quite sure Spielberg has said that Ford is the only Indy for him and there is not going to be anyone else in that role. Basically, that Indiana Jones is not Bond.

I think going back to using an important religious artifact as the MacGuffin would be the smart play.

The actual cross that Jesus was crucified on

...something like that.

Maybe something to do with Stonehenge or something like that.

Indiana Jones' quests were most interesting when he was going after something with great historical relevance imo.

If Crystal Skull is as awful as the web community says it is, then why did it get mostly positive reviews from professional critics, including Roger Ebert?

If there's any sense of irony over at Disney, Shia will be recast as an ugly big-eared dude that's a devout communist and ancient Indy will set off at Marion's request to bring their son back to capitalism and America. Indy will come face to face with his son on a suspension bridge over a deep gorge somewhere in India, and will be stabbed in the stomach and thrown to his death. An adult Short Round on a cliff above will bellow "NOOOOO!" and shoot new Shia in the shoulder as he flees. It'll setup Indy VI to be Short Round's revenge on new Shia.

If it isn't Ford, I won't watch. There is plenty of material out there I will never get to see/read/hear that if I miss out on a recasted Indiana Jones movie, I'll be able to survive.

This is how I feel. I loved the new Star Wars film but might skip the non-episode movies because I can't see anyone else playing Han Solo. Throw in the fact that I don't need to see every past event mentioned in the OT made into a movie either.

Ford = Indy and Han
Shatner = Kirk
Nimoy = Spock

Others are impostors making fake films.

Hopefully Spielberg and Ford make a great film that can have Indy riding off into the sunset and the character can be retired.

Perhaps Indy was the shooter on the grassy knoll?

I thought it was generally accepted that the aggregated positive reviews of critics means nothing about the quality of a movie. If we go by Rotten Tomatoes, Crystal Skull is on par with the Fast & Furious movies. And who cares if Ebert liked it or not anyway? You can look through his reviews and I guarantee you'll find ratings you did not expect. For example, he gave the last Mummy (a movie universally panned) 3 stars and gave Blue Velvet 1 star.

I don't care if people like a movie or not, but these kinds of comments that people make thinking it validates their opinion makes me roll my eyes so hard that I think I have a brain aneurysm now.

So I guess you never watch the first 20 minutes of Last Crusade? 'Cause River Phoenix was definitely not Harrison Ford...

On this board, the same people who say critics are worthless whenever their opinions clash will also point to critics as valid proof when their opinions agree.

Can't wait for this. I like the first four so with both Spielberg and Ford returning I sure I'll enjoy Indy 5 as well.
