Yeah the prequel Star Wars films are not that great Ep II is one of the worst films ever made both Ep I and III have there moments. The Star Trek movies I have love them since I was a kid I was born in 1981 so I grow up with the Movies then watched the TV show.

I like Final Frontier, too. One of the things that stands out to me is that, out of all the movies, its the only Kirk-Spock-Bones adventure. Surprising, given that was the core for so many of the tv episodes.

Definitely, that movie NAILS those three characters as a team. The dialog between them is quite good as well. It saves the rest of the movie, which is much more average, but still not bad in my opinion. I really think most people are thrown by the god story (which ends up being quite agnostic in message) and the poorer effects. Plus it's terrible reputation, which people latch on to.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: some of my favourite moments Kirk/Spock/Bones scenes in the ENTIRE FREAKIN' FRANCHISE come from Final Frontier. It cops a lot of shit for some aspects of it - and rightly so - but those campfire scenes are gold, gold I tells ya!

No, it's because it's a terrible movie. Shatner's ego on full rampage. His sneering "I NEED MY PAIN!" because he's "better" than McCoy (and before it was changed at Nimoy's behest) Spock. Manly man climbing a cliff with no safety equipment, throwing a 100+ pound cat lady over his head into a fish tank, then conveniently left behind to face a grainy cloud face that shoots badly animated lightning bolts. A couple "good" scenes doesn't make up for the other dozens of just outright terrible ones. CinemaSins could spend an hour on that movie. Edit: how can you say it's not bad? Not with a straight face. We have: Spock's "half-brother" out of nowhere Paradise City a painfully bad riff on Mos Eisley and the cantina, with the aforementioned 3-breasted cat lady Sulu and Chekov made to look like bumbling fools (a blizzard) Scotty & Uhura awkward flirting - out of nowhere and never mentioned again Kirk yanked to a sudden stop by Spock and his cartoon rocket boots out of the 1950s American Gladiators Klingons The Enterprise-A being a POS, that even the electronic clipboards fall apart for no good reason Uhura's naked dance Spock nerve pinching a horse The endless shuttle bay Deck 78 Scotty hitting his head Getting to the center of the galaxy in minutes Actually getting to the center of the galaxy, we're supposed to think it's dangerous but it's just a bunch of bad cloud tank effects and a little vibration. Photon torpedo detonation right next to our heroes Washed up Klingon ambassador suddenly important Useless Romulan representative All with the frosting of visual effects that somehow are worse than the original series made 20 years before. You might think it's bad and while I respect your opinions on the film. I disagree yes the film has it problems yes the effects are rubbish. But I like the film it has some great Kirk/Spock and Mccoy moments. So while you may think the film sucks try to remember that film is subjective. I notice in your Blu Ray you have Pulp Fiction I hate that film but I respect that there are people out there who love it. Last edited by Gizz; 08-07-2016 at 12:09 PM. |

I like what ST:V tried to achieve, It is a thought provoking effort. I acknowledge it is a troubled production but it has terrific moments in it. Though also admit the humour around the failing enterprise was a gag too many
I appreciate Lawrence Luckinbill's performance, he lived it. Jerry Goldsmith performed his second best work here. but then I adore The Motion Picture which also has it faults, but cinematicly Trek will never dance to that tune again. As with 5, it has it's on ideas going. I personally prefer 5 to Generations. The Nexus is too faulty for my tastes. |

I'll take ST:V over ST:III any day. And btw, ST:B was awful. Worst ST film I've ever seen. Wanted to leave at so many points, but stuck it out. Broke into a slow jog for the exits, as soon as the first credit appeared.

TFF had some great scenes with Kirk, Spock and McCoy. That aside though, I hated nearly everything else about it.
On the 'loving the movies that other people seem to hate' front though, I adore Generations. Except Kirk getting killed by a ladder. But that aside.... ![]() |

[Show spoiler] Overall, Star Trek Beyond is marginally better than Into Darkness but it's still weighed down by a paper thin plot. The classic Star Trek characters deserve better. |
