Anyone work retail or understand the "ins and outs", I have a question. I have a friend who bought a PS3 about 3 weeks ago. I talked him into it for the obvious Blu-ray abilities along with the fact that he wanted a new game system for his new hdtv. Anyway, he went on vacation and has NOT opened his PS3 yet. I told him to wait to open it because of the upcoming price drop and 5 free movie promotion. My question is this: if he takes his PS3 back to the store (I think he bought it at Game Stop)... with the receipt on July 12th and asks for a refund, would he get it? I mean, if the price drops on the 12th (he will turn around and buy one for $499, maybe from the same store) can they say "no" because it's cheaper? Or do they have to honor the fact that it's less than 30 days, he has the original receipt, and the box is still sealed and unopened? Just curious...

depends on the store policy if it says 30 days then give it back straight away cause its sealed they won't say anything if you cross the 30 day mark then you have to convince the manager and make up a sensible excuse no probs.........
and they'll give him the amount on the receipt back not the current price thats how things work here don't know abt US but might be similar |

If it's still closed, you prolly don't have an issue.
They can still sell it as new. [ add / edit ] I wouldn't suggest buying it from the same store though. You piss off management that way. You should be able to, I think the guy would be better off going in with it, saying upfront, that if he would either like to get a refund on the price-difference, or to flat out return the console. |

Sometimes all you have to do is just bring in your receipt and they will adjust the price if its within 30 days. I dunno if Game Stop has this same guarantee, but I'm sure he might be able to find their policy online. Much easier than returning and then repurchasing.

i get a lot of my electronics from best buy and u just go in with your receipt (within 30 days) and theyll scan it, give u the difference in cash and print an updated receipt. u dont even need to take in the product. only problem is with this 5 free movie offer, are they gonna still honor it like that or do u need a refund and a new receipt showing the console was purchased during the special offer period?

Do you think Wal-Mart would accept a return of my PS3 that I bought on launch day? They'll pretty much take back anything I know and then I would be able to get a 60 gb and 5 movies for the same price as my 20gb.
