Default Walmart Return Policy?

Hey guys.

I just got back from Wal-Mart and returned Casino Royale on blu-ray I got for a friend for Christmas, I toss'd my reciept, which is normal for me, I never hold on to them.

Anyway, They asked for my drivers liscence to do a store credit return.

I know some of you work at walmart, what is up with the drivers liscence thing? If I want to return anything else to walmart without a reciept will they not let me cuz I already returned something ?

I ask becuse I have a feeling I'm getting a lot of blu-rays for Christmas, and It wouldnt' surprise me if some that I get I already have. I really don't want to ask for gift reciepts or actual reciepts if I can help it.

Just curious. thanks

I think they simply want to ID the people returning this stuff to keep shoplifters from returning their own stuff for credit. Good deterent.

Let this be a lesson, keep the receipt. When I was buying DVD's I simply stuck the receipt in the case under the literature.

But they have no way of knowing if its their own stuff or if it came from say BB across the street right? I dunno, still doesnt make much sense what them having my drivers license # for.

They use your drivers # to track if you try to return multiple things in a year without a reciept

I used to work a Funcoland years ago (Currently Gamestop) and it was a policy to take the license information. The reason is because if the items are stolen they have a way to link it to the person. Also, my brothers apartment got robbed last holiday season for games and such, the police can go and check stores to what has been traded in or returned and search that way to find the person...

There was a news special last year, all major stores
now have data bases on returns, If you return too much
they shut you down unless you have a reciept,

Exactly, the cost of fraud is huge. The scout's honor rule doesn't seem to work. Again, it is a case of a few bad apples spoiling it for everyone.

Aside protection from paying retail price for possibily stolen properties, someone may buy something through an Amazon BOGO and then take one of the disc to Walmart to claim a full refund and therefore making a profit.

So getting a person's ID is one way of slowing down these abuses.

I worked for a major grocery chain store in the north east about 4 years ago at the service desk. We required drivers license and kept the numbers (no other information) on file. The first return was usually allowed if it was under $100 without a receipt. You would then be classified a level I customer. After 3 returns without a receipt that were over $25 you would be classified a level II customer and would be told you would have to have a receipt for all future returns for 3 years. Level III customers were rare, but all returns were refused because they were known to shoplift from the store. Also, certain types of returns without a receipt automatically would trigger a level II. Working for customer service I can tell you people constantly try to rip stores off.
