Instead they released the same stuff weve had for years and bundled it with that stupid shelf and slapped an absurd price on it. Considering that, I doubt they will spend the money to those put the old special features on blu-ray. Its amazing how quickly they forget what Jackson and LOTR did for them.
Yeah I don't even care if they were in high def honestly at all. I just would like them on blurays.

Go to the Star Wars threads. It never ends. With the same people complaining in here.

That is the truth esp. About the star wars thread, I quit going in there because it's always one cry after another. Even if they released those movies in 4k and all cuts of the movies they would still complain about something.

I assume this will just be the extended cut with all the features that came with the extended DVD ten years ago? If so, sweet. I never got the Blu-Ray because of the lack of features.
EDIT: I didn't look at past pages. My bad.

SD material usually looks worse on BD than on DVD, in my experience.

It depends. I feel like they sometimes just rip the DVD version and re-encode instead of going back to whatever master was delivered.

Finally! I have the blu ray. So a couple years too late. Will only buy it again on UHD someday.

I stopped going in those Star Wars threads a long time ago. You aren't even allowed to have an opinion with a lot of people. No matter what you say, people rip you a new one. I like Star Wars as much as anyone, but not to the point of trashing someone when their opinion differs from mine.
Anyway, I just heard about the new ultimate edition of King Kong. Depending on the price ($20 or so), I'll probably pick it up day one. With any luck, they'll add some new and interesting special features. As an old-school videophile, I never could develop a feel for picture in picture features that have become so popular nowadays.

I remember that being said at one point, but I don't remember whether it was accurate. dvdcompare says that the Singer one was included on the Production Diaries DVD, #53. Another site says that the Missing one (included on the 3-disc set as an Easter Egg) is #59. (Which would make it a Post-Production Diary, by the numbers listed on dvdcompare. So I'm not sure what's up there.)

My guess would be that the "missing Bryan Singer diary" that has been referenced is actually the 'Superman Lives' production diary which features Peter Jackson, rather than the King Kong diary which features Bryan Singer. (Having said that, I would also list that alongside the spider pit recreation as a feature which should be a bonus with this movie.)

The missing diary was one with Howard Shore before he left the film, I believe.

It looks like the first disc is exactly the same as what's available.

The Howard Shore diary has definitely, to date, never been released on any of the Kong DVD packages.

However, there were two more diaries which were only released as easter eggs -- "A Day at the Zoo" and "Monitor Watching Syndrome", somewhat misleadingly referred to as "The Missing Production Diary". These are the sorts of things which sometimes slip through the cracks on a re-release like this, for one reason or another, and I wouldn't be all that surprised if one or both gets left off of this one.

And there have also been persistent references, such as willbfree, to a missing Bryan Singer diary. As I said, my best guess is that this is due to there being two different production diaries featuring Bryan Singer and Peter Jackson discussing King Kong and Superman Returns, one for each movie. [I admit, I'm not as big a fan of Singer or his Superman, so I'm not entirely certain of this, but it appears that Singer's Superman diaries were only ever released on a bonus disc in a 14-disc "Ultimate Superman" DVD box set, not on any Blu release or even stand-alone release of Returns.]

The second disc is also identical to previously available DVDs. Only the third disc is new (hence the "new bonus disc" in the marketing), and even that is all previously released content, just collected onto one disc instead of six.
