my point is thats 10 million real users. i've got multiple accounts on both systems, and they shouldn't be counted like sony is counting them.

Didn't the PS2 pretty much own the last generation? I remember being able to buy tons of good games for it, and not having a major problem. This generation there seems to be less good games.

some clarification on the numbers..

Sony has now clarified with GameSpot UK that the 14 million "active users" does include PSP accounts as well as PS3, just because both include "PlayStation Network services." In other words, the 14 million represents the total number of active Network accounts, and contrary to popular opinion, they're not counting duplicates. So of course, the logical question is, how many users are logging on with their PS3? Well, according to a Sony representative:

"We've seen an increase in unique [PS3] consoles registered for PSN compared to the sell through rate, which means we are seeing more PlayStation 3 owners who didn't previously register, do so lately, based on the new features we've added to PSN, such as Video Store and Trophies."

doesn't include duplicates so i guess that makes me feel better about the numbers. the number of psp users can't be all that big, so that's an impressive number. good job sony

Yes its finally happened. What Microsoft did in 6 years, Sony did it in 2. This may be because there are multiple accounts on some machines, but this is still a bid day for Sony.

I think around Febuary (month I signed up), there was like under 3 million signed up to PSN. Now, in less than a year, there was just a huge spike.

Live is a paid service. PSN is free that allows people to create multiple accnts - I have three myself. I love Sony and give credit where credit is due, but PSN is no where near Live at this stage.

Yeah, PS2 was pretty much the hands down winner - I'm just saying the overall attitude that seems to permeate many of these discussions is that people want THEIR console to ultimately drive the other out of existence - which I can't understand... I can admit that the PS3 has oodles of unlocked potential, but the point I'm making is that the potential of the PS3 simply causes the competitors to raise the bar in the next gen... which then causes a response from Sony and so forth - if there were NO COMPETITION, we'd still be only buying the NES.

I don't have a PS3, but in my household we do have 3 PSPs.... Each with their own account.. And in all honesty, I don't use the PSN much (last time I just used it through my web browser on the laptop and transferred info over)...

I should cancel my accounts just out of my fanboy-ism to the 360... Just kidding there... but in all honesty, PSP users should not count if you want to make the playing field level... But how many solely PSP PSN accounts are there? A couple hundred thousand at best?

Still a good job for Sony... But I think they would be smart to start charging for the service... you can only go so long with freeloaders...

People have a certain amount of disposal income they are going to spend...instead of spending it on a service we end up spending it on the content instead. So no freeloaders. ... just happier customers.
