I wouldn't say I don't care at all about Resurrection, it has some neat stuff in it. I certainly don't care a lot though, and certainly wouldn't watch it in laserdisc resolution for those color differences.

Agreed. A near total washout. As for 3 I'd rather sit through the documentary than the film -- any cut of it. Lol

Alien Resurrection, a truly awful movie, looks mediocre-at-best on Blu-ray, you'll find no argument there. Like Alien 3, a great movie, it would benefit tremendously from a new modern scan.

Yep - I still have my LD of it, and (thanks to my RF demodulator working 20 years later) also enjoy the excellent 5.1 track on it.

Resurrection despite it's flaws is still an enjoyable ride, fun, wacky, funny at times, and always visually interesting. Imo the flaws lie mainly with the script which Whedon admitted that the final product doesn't represent his original screenplay. I own the anthology and embrace every bit of it.

Question

So here's an odd request that maybe someone here can help me out with: I have the Anthology set that came with the egg. The egg is usually stored away (shelf space), but I don't care for the CD-sized case the discs are in.

I know a lot of people don't like the slide-out cardboard packaging the standard release came in, and keep their discs in plastic cases. Would someone be willing to sell me just the full-sized original packaging for the Alien Anthology for cheap? Mint condition, of course.

Your best bet for that is probably going to be eBay.

The "pink tint" is a heavier red push in the transfer process to compensate for CRT-based displays.

The LD and VHS have the same red push, but since the color is "weaker" (color under/composite/etc) and not component like on DVD & BD you don't see it as much.

Maybe check the trading forums here, lots of people probably hate both and have made custom covers for multi-disc cases. Of course I'm sure you'll hear from at least 2 people who have thrown out what you are looking for, but someone who's gone custom and doesn't have collector's OCD might help ya. Ebay is also good place to look.

Well, the movie was intended to be printed with the bleach-bypass process that leaves a layer of silver on the print, making it denser and darker and desaturating the colour...which is what the Quadrilogy versions appear to be attempting to emulate.

As terrible as I think the movie is, I wouldn't say no to a new 4K transfer (for the eventual UHD edition) which also tries to get close to that silver retention look.

It's looks like the process is still present in the initial theatrical release. I'm willing to bet they just botched the 2003 release. The extended scenes don't even have the bleach-bypass process applied to them at all and they stick out like a sore thumb.

I saw it theatrically too...and I can't remember a thing about what it looked like.

I saw it nearly twenty years ago at the local fleabag multiplex, I remember being uncomfortable the whole time because I'd bruised my coccyx, and the film didn't help either.

I dunno if any of these sources for Resurrection's video releases actually have been processed in this way, as the bleach bypass itself is usually carried out on release prints, though some films did actually have their neg processed in this manner to 'bake in' the look at source. I recall that on Se7en they didn't have enough capacity to create the number of bleach-bypass prints that they wanted, so they did the process to the internegative and then ran some prints from that.

I was going to say there's nothing left to add. The original set literally has every possible extra for all four films.

I did see one source labeling it it as "Blu-ray/DHD", which would imply digital copies being included, so that's a remote possibility I guess, but the timing of it for sure points to it have Alien Covenant movie cash at the very least.

Are they going to change the packaging, because on my recent Paxton-athon, Aliens was a terrifying prospect to get out of it's sleeve?
