Well we all have our own priorities, that's for sure. Just ironic you wrote "get over it" about cover art and then obsess over slips. Get over it!

I've always found it fascinating how much people care about art cover and/or slip covers. First thing I do when I receive my copy is throw away the slip covers, and the art I never see once I put in the rack and don't even notice it. I wouldn't even care if it was all white with just text of the title

To each their own!

As far as this UHD is concerned, I still say it's not as bad as people make it out to be. I will watch the UHD before the BD any day.

Watched the UHD last night and it looked beautiful. The movie itself is just okay, but video quality and colors were great. There weren't too many opportunities for HDR to "shine" other than at sunset/sunrise.

I would hardly say I obsessed over slips. Someone earlier was wondering if Best Buy would still have the older glossy slipcovers and I just simply confirmed my Best Buy only had the newer non-glossy slips. Seems you are more obsessed with my obsessions.

I liked the story, but I think the trailers revealed WAY too much and were so spoilery. Going in, since I had an idea what it was about, it did feel too obvious. It would have been a cooler "twist" if they were more subtle with it, even though it has been done before. I still enjoyed it overall and will pick it up for $14.99.

I don't recall even having seen a lot of trailers for it beforehand, I just seemed to be on a roll with movies like this and Moon which everyone raved about but I saw the twist coming from a country mile away.

It's not THE softest piece of video software ever made, but purely in comparison to the BD it's been filtered like a mother****er. As we don't usually watch two different versions of movies on different screens side by side then it looks fine taken at face value, especially once the lovely HDR & WCG is factored in, but personally I can't get over how soft it is. So I sharpen the shit out of it with the excellent mid/high-frequency sharpening modes on the Panasonic.

Ordered this on Amazon and came with the glossy slipcover. My nearest Best Buy has both the glossy and the re-issue non-glossy slipcover. Since this went out of stock at Amazon I have a feeling they might send the re-issue slipcover but who knows.

What TV do you have it paired with?

Just my two cents: I'm glad I finally decided to ignore the bad reviews and take the plunge on this disc. The HDR and Atmos more than make up for the tiny bit of sharpness lost. It just looks more cinematic as a whole than the bluray and I can still see every pore on Tom's face. Actually now to my eyes, the bluray looks oversharpened and artificial. Again, just my two cents.

Try putting the Reality Creation setting to Auto and stand close to the screen when switching between off and auto.

Geoff lives in his own reality creation. He don't need no setting for that.

Picked this up at Best Buy tonight, sold the digital code to a member here so basically for $10 why not, I've never owned this one before

Reality Creation has very little effect in 4K as the TV doesn't have enough processing power to do many extraneous functions with a 4K signal, except display it as unmolested as possible. The 4K image can't be overscanned or zoomed in (apart from when inputting a 4096x2160 signal which is 17:9), the noise reduction options are all Off and greyed out, and RC can be set to Manual or Off, there is no Auto function available when watching 4K material.

But the sharpening settings on the Panasonic player do wonders for this particular disc. They make everything else look extremely harsh and halo-ey but because Oblivion UHD has been softened so aggressively it can stand to be sharpened quite aggressively too. (I recommend putting both Mid and High Frequency Luma sharpness on +6 and Edge Correction on +1 to remove the horizontal ringing that then occurs.)

Taken the plunge and got this coming tomorrow with Goodfellas, couldn't resist for £15 a piece. Got an Atmos Soundbar coming this month too, so looking forward to Oblivion's soundtrack.

So with this at 14.99, would past owners say it’s worth the purchase? I’ve never seen it so I don’t have a point of reference but Opinion still seems a bit Split.

I think so. For the people that don't notice much difference or think it's "inferior", I always look into what kind of gear they running.

You also get a UHD Dolby Vision streaming version with it, and it doesn't have the filtering.

The filtering of the spatial resolution vs the 1080p Blu-ray is, in the words of Jor-El, a matter of undeniable fact. It is also an undeniable fact that the HDR of the UHD presentation smokes the 1080p Blu-ray. So what to do? It all depends on what people prize more (bearing in mind the Atmos audio on the UHD) but for $14.99 it's worth a punt of anyone's money.
