I really hope this will be good. I'm a huge fan of the original and Tim Curry was fantastic. It really discourages me that the original director for this remake (who directed the fantastic first season of True Detective which ironically had elements of Stephen King's IT) is no longer involved. I loved the initial concept of making it 2 separate films instead of ultimately deciding to change that and squeeze it into a 2 hour film.

I wish the studio would stop clowning around and release the trailer already.

I remember watching the TV mini-series when I was a kid and to be honest the only good thing about it was Tim Curry. Well, also "Pennywise's" real form was kind of cool.

It looked like something I ate at Red Lobster but with today's cgi it could be terrifying. Actually, that's what I want from this remake. Make it scary as hell with less humor than the original.

Probably the scariest part in the original was when
[Show spoiler]Stan casually walked upstairs and slit his wrists.

I thought this was still going to be 2 separate films assuming the first one does well enough for WB to green light the sequel? Aren't the characters only depicted as children in this?

It's possible. Last I heard that had changed but I could be wrong now

It's going to be very hard to get someone to give as great of a performance for young Henry Bowers as the original.

There will be two films. Part 2 starts shooting this summer.

That's great news! Hopefully the director can pull it off

It's no major loss. The draft that leaked was very good, but there's some bizarre deviations from the source material (for starters, Stuttering Bill no longer stutters). Fukunaga also wanted a NC-17 to accommodate highly sexual scenes involving the kids, which was never going to happen.

I didn't see anything remotely close to a NC-17 scene involving kids in that draft.
The guy who did the IT rewrite also did rewrites for Final Destination 5, the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street and wrote the Annabelle script. And Andy Muschietti's Mama is filled with CGI and jump scares, things I despise in the horror genre.
I'm hoping for the best but it's hard not to be worried.

Not in the leaked draft, no, but in earlier ones.

Muschietti is taking that draft and bringing it closer to the book, so it sounds to me like we're getting the best of both worlds.

Yikes! That is call for concern. I loved Annabelle but those other films are awful.

The only good scene was when it goes back and forth from the pharmacy to Freddy's kill place. Also, how come those teens didn't slam energy drinks?

Yeah those scenes would've never happened but it doesn't prevent the fact that he showed superb talent with the first season of True Detective and would've made an incredible IT remake as far as I'm concerned. That issue with the kids I can separate from the bottom line that I'd much rather have him as the director. I guess we'll see though with the final product. I absolutely hated the Elm Street remake. Sounds like Warner wanted to go the standard horror film route nowadays instead of doing something artistically valuable yet again.
