There's no way a remake will capture audiences and create that buzz the way the original did. That original is like a Takashi Miike meets David Lynch flick. Plus, like the article reads, it was a product of perfect timing (the Internet, J-Horror)

I'd say Gozu channels Lynch far more than Audition, but either way it's a great flick and does not need a remake (just like most other films).

She was actually saying "kiri, kiri, kiri", which means "deeper, deeper, deeper"... Eeewww!!

Ugh. I saw this without having any idea it was a horror movie.

Hahaha! Must admit I love the flick. But yeah, it certainly freaked me out the first time I saw it. The male lead was very good too.

The remake train just keeps rolling on doesn't it? At least they're selecting more "culty" obscure titles, I'm kinda surprised that Godfather or Goodfellas hasn't been remade already. Not sure I'd even care to try a remake of this one, the original is insanely perfect in a painful twisted way.

There wasn't a thread for this new Audition remake, so I figured instead of starting a new one folks might miss, I'd post the remske news and link here in the original Audition thread, so that the real fans, you guys, would learn of it first.
But if there's ever a thread for solely the remake, let me know here....so I can go there and make fun of it... I mean... read some of the comments

Something to keep in mind is that plenty of films get planned reboots/remakes, but a large amount never make it out of development (thankfully). Just because it's been announced doesn't mean it's going to see the light of day. Anyone remember the god awful announcement that Martyrs was going to be remade with Kristen Stewart in the lead role? Thankfully that turd never materialized.

This will be receiving a brand-new restoration by Arrow (UK only) next year, plus a steelbook edition.

The video quality on it is famously bad. Check out the reviews on this site (both the main one and all the user ones), for example.

I was ordering some Shout stuff earlier today and noticed this is showing as "not available" on their site. I checked a few other online retailers and it's looking pretty scarce. I wonder if this means that Shout is taking another swipe at it soon, or maybe Arrow?

Yeah I wrote that years before it was released... but even with the remake my comments were geared more toward the terrible idea of casting Kristen Stewart in the lead role.

Shout Factory no longer has the license for the film and therefore cannot legally sell it. Arrow in all liklihood has the US license now and will be bringing their edition stateside later this year.
