I think Nicole might win over Reese because it was a far more heavier role and Nicole's performance was brilliant. Still, she has Sarandon and Lange to deal with, and considering the Emmy's love for Ryan Murphy, it's a huge possibility that Nicole may not even win.

It's Nicole Vs. Susan. Lange isn't doing very impressive work on Feud.

Then it's Susan's to lose. She's a well-beloved actress who's never won an Emmy, portraying one of the most acclaimed actresses of any era. Plus, Ryan Murphy.

We still don't know who would be considered lead or supporting. I imagine Lange and Sarandon will be nominated for lead and HBO could always submit Kidman and Witherspoon as supporting considering it's an ensemble.

The entire cast delivered stellar performances but Nicole Kidman had the kind of character journey and emotionally grueling scenes (even her quieter scenes with the therapist are masterful) that do indeed win awards. Jessica Lange has been working in T.V. for a while now, and the temptation to give an Emmy to a current movie-star like Kidman is, rightly or wrongly, inherently tempting (regardless, I personally believe she deserves to win based on the quality of her performance).

Last but not least, Kidman has the edge in giving that performance in a series that is infinitely superior to Feud. That can play a part as well.

People Vs OJ was an ensemble and yet they gave out Lead noms, too.

It's weird, because I'd give this show an A, but I really don't think any individual episode was worthy of a rating THAT high. Maybe the finale I suppose. It's just so damn good as a whole. I don't really think there was a standout episode.

Finale was terrific. I was left wanting more though dammit. Please, please let them continue. It's that fu*cking good that I'll be sad if this really is it.

Who was the person with the clicking lighter who was watching them surreptitiously at the end? It was so subtle I almost took it for a stylistic choice, but others have confirmed it.

I noticed that as well and figure it's detective Quinlan, who suspected there was something the women weren't telling the police about that night while her partner was eager to close the case.Looks likes she's keeping tabs on them.

Seems odd to set it up for a season 2 that may never come to pass, but I guess that's why it was so subtle. Did not like that though, as there was no indication of the lighter affectation, nor was she a big enough character that it amounted to anything other than confusion.

I liked how it ended, but I think they needed a bit more explanation with how they resolved what went down rather than just expecting you to take for granted "Oh of course, they're all friends now." I'm sure the book explained it better.

And I still think they overdid it with all the foreshadowing of the "trivia night murder" with all those ghastly extras going on and on about how rotten the main characters were. Why would they interview people who were not even witness to the crime? That one fat lady they kept showing over and over repulsed me so much I literally lost my appetite while eating and watching the show. Sorry!

There's no where to go if they continue it. They finished adapting the book. It's done.

Well, that's not true. The Leftovers finished adapting the book after season 1, and the third season is airing this month.

More BLL is probably unlikely, but not totally impossible. They definitely could do more, and I'm sure everyone that watched it will still be interested in these characters whether there's a murder mystery surrounding them or not.

Just because they can doesn't mean they should. Like I said before, putting aside the characters' arcs are finished and don't need anymore continuations, two of the leads have a lot on their plate and spending more months on a show means they need to leave those projects. For example, Reese already lost an opportunity to star in another Alexander Payne movie and quite possibly the first movie she did to be nominated for Best Picture. She can't afford that kind of loss again. She has:

- An astronaut picture (Pale Blue Dot)
- A Peggy Lee biopic
- A Wall Street satire (Opening Belle)
- The Barbie creator biopic (Barbie and Ruth)
- A war movie (Ashley's War)
- Two fantasy epic (Pennyroyal's Princess Boot Camp, The Outliers)
- A fairy tale (Happily Ever After)
- A family comedy (Wish List)
- A family drama (Napkin Notes)
- A dark comedy (Nice)
- Plenty of romantic comedies (The Beard, Pharm Girl, The Engagements, Men Are From Mars)
- And a lot of thrillers (Luckiest Girl Alive, Cold, In A Dark, Dark Wood, The Dry, Second Life)

She simply can't do a second season. And Nicole has even more movies on her slate, so there's that.

That's a completely different situation. This was always planned as a miniseries that completely adapts the book. The Leftovers was picked up with the idea that it would go past the first book. Also, The Leftovers changed a lot of stuff to make it work as a TV show.

As someone said above, they shouldn't do another season just because they can. It's perfect the way it is.

I was just saying that completing the arc of the book won't be the reason there won't be a second season. The ratings were great and if scheduling works out and they have a good idea for it, a second season isn't impossible.

The ratings were great which means HBO will definitely work with the cast and crew again. The director has already confirmed there won't be a season 2. And there definitely shouldn't be.

The director has said that he doesn't want to do a season 2, not that there won't be.

I don't know why you're taking this so seriously. All I'm saying is that more episodes of the show isn't totally out of the question.

Don't forget Reese and Nicole are already working with Kelley and Vallee on adapting another Liane Moriarty book Truly, Madly Guilty, I'm assuming it will end up on HBO again with the big success of BLL.

Vallee's next project anyways is another limited series book adaptation for HBO starring Amy Adams.

I forgot to include that in my post above. It's not confirmed to star both at the moment nor is it confirmed to be another miniseries. And I didn't find that Vallée and Kelly were coming back for that. Here's the original article:

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: Reese Witherspoon and her Pacific Standard production banner have re-teamed with Nicole Kidman and her Blossom Films to option the film rights to best-selling novelist Liane Moriarty’s Truly Madly Guilty. Witherspoon and Kidman will produce with Pacific Standard’s Bruna Papandrea and Blossom’s Per Saari. The novel has topped the New York Times bestseller lists, and Witherspoon and Kidman’s companies are in postproduction on a limited series based on Moriarty’s Big Little Lies for HBO. The series was adapted by David E. Kelley and directed by Jean-Marc Vallee and stars Witherspoon, Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz and Alexander Skaarsgard.
