This was known. Don May has said multiple times that there were no good elements to do a new HD master when people constantly asked Synapse if they were going to be releasing a bluray. Honestly I'm just expecting a sub par transfer here, but I'm hoping for lots of entertaining extras.

Not sure if this has been reported, but I met Frank Henenloter last weekend at NJ Horror Con and he told me that Arrow will be doing a new Blu Ray of BASKET CASE once the MOMA restoration is complete. He said there will be new bonus features, including an early film of his that he seemed to feel was not very good.

He was genuinely baffled when MOMA approached him about obtaining BASKET CASE for their collection. The first question he asked them was "have you even seen it?!" Ha! He has provided them with every available element for their restoration and is confident it will look incredible.

He also told me why the original audio commentary for Brain Damage will not be included on the Arrow release. Apparently a good friend of his passed away right before the commentary recording session and he felt the track was never satisfactory. As a result, he recorded a brand new one for Arrow that he said would have a lot of great information.

In my picture below, you can see Rick Hearst (star of Brain Damage) poking his around Frank.

Since nobody is providing an actual, definitive source (the link previously provided doesn't cite anything about being an Arrow presentation and everything else has been all he said, she said, my uncle's brother's cousin said) for The Slayer, here's what can elevate it to Confirmed.

From Screen Anarchy:

Quote:
04/03/2017, Dallas, Texas – Texas Frightmare Weekend is back with a vengeance May 5th through the 7th, offering up celebrity guests, vendors, and more new films than ever! Several films have been slated for viewing throughout the weekend including North American Premieres, rarely seen films, retro classics, a secret screening and more!

First up, TFW 2017 Presenting Sponsor Arrow Video is presenting two retro classic screenings: Dario Argento’s giallo THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE and the rarely seen 1982 slasher THE SLAYER.
There y'all go for actual definitive, irrefutable evidence.

www. texasfrightmareweekend.com /production /arrow-video-presents-slayer/

I added a few spaces to the url so that the forum doesn't automatically change it to a hyperlink but how is that not actual evidence?

Is The Slayer a slasher film? The trailer and logline looks more like a monster/creature flick.

Simultaneous releases from both Arrow and Code Red. Each acquired rights from a different party and was told they had exclusive US rights.

My suspicions about Arrow releasing Basket Case were correct then. That one will almost certainly be a US-only release as things stand.

If The Slayer restoration is complete (I'm guessing that's what will be shown in May, not an older print), then hopefully we'll see it in July or August.

It's a monster flick disguised as a slasher It's a great, highly atmospheric monster movie steeped in slasher film conventions - can't recommend it enough. I'm so happy it's coming from Arrow that I actually don't care if they don't release anything other films in this genre this year. The chances of that happening are slim to none so I win anyway

Strange thing, though. Now that the film has (sort of) been announced this way, why does Arrow bother with "surprise" monthly announcements? We know it's coming so that element of surprise is gone - poof. Unless, of course, not all Texas Frightmare presentations translate into future Blu-rays.

Where did you see Midnight mentioned? That's another one of my Arrow holy grails.

It was this bit from post #9443 on the previous page, which has now been edited to say Madhouse, so I guess the poster confused the titles. Too bad. I'd much rather have Midnight.

Maybe he was asked to edit his post? Not sure if Madhouse qualifies as a slasher, though (it's Italian, for starters). Midnight could very well end up being reissued by Arrow, perhaps they're searching for better elements. Their DVD used the same crappy master that Lionsgate used for their DVD many moons ago (full frame, almost-VHS quality). It's a bit of a minor classic and really needs a better release. I think it's just a matter of time.

John Russo will be appearing at Scare-A-Con in June, so if no information about Midnight (or Night of the Living Dead!) is forthcoming by then, I'll ask him.

Mea culpa; I did indeed put Midnight for some reason, apologies for the confusion (and any premature excitment). When I saw the speculation I wondered if I was behind it, and tried to quietly amend it to Madhouse. I think this post from Joseph Henson of The Hysteria Continues confirms Arrow would qualify Madhouse as a slasher (he was also involved in a new commentary for Pieces).

Midnight is possible as a UK-only title I imagine. Hopefully Arrow get round to upgrading most of their DVD releases at some point.

Lionsgate outright owns the U.S. rights to MIDNIGHT, so Vestron's our best hope for a domestic release, but I doubt it's super high on their list. Still, given Red Shirt Pictures' past history with the Pittsburgh filmmaking scene, I think a really nice special edition could be mounted.

Independent International owns the rest of the world.

Never considered Vestron but, yes, you're correct. If LG isn't planning on releasing it then Arrow will be the next best thing. So good to be region free!

For those interested, it seems Arrow will be releasing Miracle Mile in the UK. Apparently Steve De Jarnett is pushing them to do a 4K restoration; we'll have to see if he's successful in his efforts.

Definitely a movie I will double-dip on.
