I really wish people would just stop comparing the two. Curry was great in the role, although I think 'legendary' is pushing it a bit. The miniseries has dated pretty horribly. Comparing Curry's cartoony portrayal in a 30 year old TV mini series to an r rated 2017 straight up horror movie makes no sense. You never know, those holding onto their nostalgic goggles for dear life might even like the new version if they release the grip a little.

It's ok to like both versions. I am sure Curry won't mind.

I used to be dead set on ANYONE playing Pennywise besides Curry, especially when that WE'RE THE MILLERS dork was gonna play him.

This new guy is an unknown, to me anyways, actor and any doubts I have were pretty much cleared after the teaser.

That said, from watching a bunch of Youtube reaction trailers last night, I had a dream his voice had me on the floor laughing, so I hope that doesn't happen.

I think what someone said about the Freddy comparison is fair.

If Pennywise was Freddy, Curry would be jokey Dream Master Freddy, Skarsgaard would be more serious and even scary Elm Street 1 Freddy.

I prefer to refer to the new film as a new adaptation of the novel than a remake as the intent is certainly not to remake the tv mini-series. If the mini-series was an original property I would be more inclined to call it a remake.

Yeah I know, semantics schemantics.

We haven't even heard Pennywise speak yet and you are making a statement based on a teaser trailer cut for the intentions of being scary. How can you make any judgement on a character based on that exactly?

Any thoughts on introducing Pennywise in this movie? I think the book first has the clown in 1985 under a bridge. The 1990 movie introduces Pennywise with the Itsy Bitsy Spider girl present day. Then the Georgie scene.

Seeing as this won't have the present day story, what do you think? I see it working best if the sewer scene is not Pennywise's introduction. Would be interesting to set up the cycle aspect as a prologue or credit sequence with the clown. At least to explain Pennywise's clothes.

Yep. The kids part is passable, if not just a cliffnotes version of the book. Part 2 sucks.

Well where's the fun in that? Then they can't hate anything. Lol

If they aren't going to show the visions, i'd love to see IT's arrival to earth.

I never thought this portrayal of Pennywise was scary watching this as a 12ish year old kid. Then again, I've never found clowns scary.

That's not to say I didn't like it; I thought Tim Curry was awesome.

Curry and the kids were great. That's it. I don't find him scary either, because I share the same sentiment about clowns. Know what scares me shitless? Snakes. Leeches. But clowns? Meh lol

Whoa whoa WHOA. Will Poulter would have been amazing. If you've only ever seen him in We're the Millers, you're missing out. He was great in Son of Rambow and Wild Bill.

Don't get me wrong, I'm optimistic about Bill Skarsgård's performance, but I would equally have been excited about Poulter.

When reading the book I loved the various "Interludes" prior to the encounter with the kids. Fingers crossed they incorporate these into the movie.(not holding my breath)

But I think we need to see It under the bridge becuase it marks the start of a new cycle with the death of
[Show spoiler]Adrian Mellon

P.S. My favourite King book.

The leaked draft begins with Georgie's death, same as the novel.

It'll certainly be interesting to see how Skarsgard will do on the voice & how well his facial expressions show through his makeup. The buck teeth kinda looks weird, not sure I'll be able to take him seriously, if he is trying to be menacing. An example would be the photo album scene from the TV film, just the way Curry sounds and the way his mouth & eyes come across. Then there is the library scene with Richie and Pennywise is cracking jokes...

Back to the jump scare talk.

Ouija 2 has a great extremely cheap jump scare. The girls scream makes me LOL. Even cheap scares can be done right.

He/she/IT IS a monster. An ageless, form-changing, child-killing/eating monstrosity that feeds off fear.

The reason the original Pennywise was funny is a combination of 1. Tim Curry hamming it up and 2. Stephen King always sort of has a dark sense of humor. I wouldn't call it humor so much as it's uneasily morbidly amusing.

Rewatched the original again. I like it. The spider scene is weak but I enjoy the rest.

This movie is gonna be terryifing since they'll be able to show more.

I'm tempted to re-watch the mini-series (even though I last watched it a few months ago), but I'm still re-reading the novel and I'm worried it would disrupt the book's momentum, so to speak.

SO those that read the book, how close was the 90's film to the source material. I read the differences on some site, but it didn't seem...minus the gang bang and the turtle....that they had changed much. Am I wrong?

I had a few King fan cousins that would always tell me growing up that the film was nothing like the book.

Just curious.
