I do not yet have a 4K UHD Blu-ray player and my 4K television is not equipped with the right HDMI hookup for such a player, but, I figure that, if I'm buying a new movie that I want on standard Blu-ray (La La Land, Passengers, etc.) or if I'm double-dipping for a noticeably improved standard Blu-ray remaster (Unforgiven, Labyrinth, etc.), and these are available in 4K UHD Blu-ray + Blu-ray combo packs, then why not shell out an extra five dollars just to get the combo pack so that I can have future-proof editions of these movies?

4K UHD Blu-ray may prove to be a viable format or it may not, but it's worth a gamble, especially when these combo packs are not that much more expensive.

The marketing decision to release these initial 4K UHD Blu-ray releases as combo packs with their respective standard Blu-rays is a wise and practical decision for all parties.

Why do I have to buy a new format I can't play just to get the normal Blu Ray? That sounds like a load of ass.

If you are a true film fan you'd be an idiot (unless you don't have the money) not to upgrade to 4K as this is almost the resolution of 35mm.

Blu-ray looks absolutely stunning on my 4K TV. No BS. It doesn't have your new fangled HDR (which has not bewitched me as it has apparently everybody else), but the detail is crisp and clear and overall gorgeous. That's all I want.
Blu-rays do look amazing upscaled. UHDs look better. I want the best, especially when it's not that much more expensive. Someday when UHD players and televisions are even cheaper you'll probably see for yourself.

I've seen UHD in action. I've seen HDR (no thanks). I remain unmoved.

Sounds to me like the bluray is so darn good it will help sell the UHD disc right now. If it were just a tad better a movie I might've given in and bought an extra UHD disc that I would never use just to own the blu now. These newer blus just keep getting better and better.

Just ordered this for the Blu-ray after reading a few words from RAH over at HTF. I have no intention in going 4K UHD unless I win the lottery which I don't play, so chances are pretty slim. I was going to wait for the eventual Blu-ray release, but I'm sure I can get at least half of the money back if I just Ebay the 4K UHD disc.

Edit: Sorry, please skip the PM's for the 4K UHD disc, might be keeping it after all.....maybe. Never thought I was going blu either, so in the words of my favorite Bond.... Never Say Never Again.

Why are some people trying to make 4K fail?

It's goddamn DVD that's the real enemy, you fools.

Here I thought streaming was supposed to be the enemy.

None of are "trying to make 4K fail". Speaking for myself, I just don't care about it.

Also, there's lots of stuff on DVD that I can only watch on that format. Why would it be the enemy? It's still a physical format, at least.

It is amazing that dvds still exist, but I know a lot of people who buy dvds and have not upgraded to blu ray.

DVD for new releases will hopefully be dead by the end of the decade. 25 years is good run.

Man, leave 3D out of it. Just like you love 4K there are people like me who love Blu-Ray 3D. Nothing wrong with any of the formats but don't put down Blu-Ray 3D for your bs argument. That's weak.

Bottom line is 2D, 3D, and UHD BD help keep physical media going and that's all what matters.

Yeah. I wouldn't call DVD the enemy, but it was never good for blu-ray that DVD got to stick around this whole time supported by cheapskates who couldn't pony up $50 for a BD player. I used to talk to them all the time on my Star Trek and Doctor Who forums, and they would scream at me that $50 was a huge amount of money to them and that BDs didn't look any better so they didn't care. Same as some above are doing about UHD.

In the end most consumers don't care about quality after it meets a certain acceptable standard. From then on they only care about price and convenience. I get that, I get the reality of it. That's why I said I hope there's more releases like this that force people to support UHD, because I want it to succeed despite that.

I've already upgraded my set to 4k, but I still think that the uhd releases are half baked so far, specially catalog releases. I bet in a couple of years we'll have to buy all of these movies yet again, when the studios *finally* get it right

if anything, a 4k tv and player made me love 1080p blu rays even more
