I just learned about this. Maybe they should recast some of the roles. This is going to be a problem with Harry Potter too but we have too much attachment to the actors to change that one now.
It appears the chance of a sequel to Golden Compass is the same as the chance of a sequel to Prince Caspian NEW http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/35616...e-caspian-the/ Prince Caspian, the second chapter in C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia series, is a little bit of a cinematic enigma. It cost a ton to get made, and it did finish 2008 just outside the top 10 grossing films this year, making a little over $140 million in the U.S., but it made almost twice that internationally, and will have made more money than Hellboy II, Saw V or some other sequels out there. So based on box office alone, it's kind of in a position similar to Golden Compass, both films made a bunch of money overseas, while the money in the U.S. could be considered disappointing. Yet it wouldn't surprise me if we saw sequels to either in our futures. OLD but new to me http://www.thisisoxfordshire.co.uk/n...n_film_sequel/ He told the Oxford Mail: "It is quite possible that a sequel will happen but, as everyone knows, the film did not do well in the box office in America and that has a large effect on people's plans. I spoke to the producers last week and they told me about the latest developments. "They are getting a script together and they have plans to get things going - in time all things are possible and I feel quite positive about it." Mr Pullman said he hoped there would not be too long a delay before work started on the sequel because Dakota Blue Richards, the 12-year-old star of The Golden Compass, was growing up quite quickly. He added that making a film was a very different, and far more expensive, process to writing a book and having it published. |

I bought on Blu .... I was stunned by the visual style of the movie and the plot is actually rather intricate. I never read the novels and don't expect I ever will, but I really hope that the seuquals get made. The young actress who starred in the movie did a great job, the film would suffer a bit if they recast her, but if they would recast Kidaman and Daniel Craig, I probably wouldn't even bother with them.

What's the chance of a director's cut of Golden Compass coming out. I loved the books and felt the movie to be too rushed. Then, I found out about New Line editing about 40 minutes out. I think it needed those 40 minutes, it would have helped the whole pacing problem.
With that, I hope a sequel is made, but I will not buy the theatrical version. |

I'll be honest in saying that these books were a much harder read than harry potter. I LOVED them, but not as much. Something about them got thick. IDK how to describe it... But I just felt bogged down sometimes... But the story is amazing.

i've wanted to read them for quite a while now. how are they compared to Lord of the Rings books?? those were not fun to read the 1st time either. Tolkein really has a way of writing that is just really difficult to read sometimes. |

I do hope they make the sequel, I did love the first film but I had some advatange of having read the book first. I can sure understand how it might be easy for people to get a bit confuse with the first movie. The series does become more "thick" as it goes along. It is a much harder read then the Harry Potter because the authors have a very different style of writting, IMO.
The movie on BD is just stunning however. |

I agree. I read maybe a third of the first book. The descriptions are so weighty. It was harder than reading Lolita.

I found it to be the opposite, actually. I read the whole series as well, but I have to say I didn't feel they were difficult to read at all. I thoroughly enjoyed them and felt they flowed quite smoothly. However, when I tried to read the first Harry Potter book, but found myself annoyed with the writing style and rather bored. Perhaps because Potter was written for children, while His Dark Materials were written for an older audience. I feel they are much more thought provoking as well as intellectually and emotionally stimulating.

![]() I think part or all of the 40 min was the ending they cut. Originally they had it end like the book but they cut it short to end it on more of a high note. They were planning to use the cut footage in the sequel. If they recast any characters they may have to just reshoot it. |

Hate to say it as a huge fan of the books, but the chances of sieng a sequal to the golden compass is about as likely as everyone here getting laid by Megan Fox. In other words, it isn't going to happen. Though i'd love to be proven wrong.
