Copying the disc can strip out the button lock-outs (though oddly you still have to manually chapter-skip through the opening trailers, the Menu button still won't work) but Oppo players also let you move the subtitles down a bit if you can't make a copy, so at least they're less intrusive.
Your description of how it works was my experience when using my Oppo 103. This is NOT what is happening using the Oppo 203.

After the theatrical trailers are bypassed, 3D is chosen and Top Menu appears, I just press "Film" (I do not go into the "version" choices). The film starts with English as the default. When pressing "audio" on the remote it shows the second choice in 4 choices = "English DTS-HD MA 5.1" as being active. When pressing the"Subtitle" button on the remote the pop-up on screen shows the first choice = "French" is active and if I try to choose Off or the other two French choices, a pop-up appears: "Operation is Blocked by Disc" comes on screen. Never the less, no forced French subtitles are showing up on screen with the 203 and I'm enjoying the movie subtitle-free with English lossless audio.

I don't have my player's default language selected since I like it to just go to whatever is on audio track #1, so setting it to English must select the 2nd audio track on this but not change the default subtitles. Good to know that's another workaround. Will have to check and see if there truly is anything at all on that first subtitle track.

there are two australian releases that are region free, the guillotines and hara-kiri death of a samurai, both of them have the region free symbol on the back of the case and on the disc, english subtitles is included on the australian releases of both films.

You gave me hope now, will buy this title. I am still waiting for the next Oppo to come out to make a decision about the player.

I have added these, thanks. There are Region A versions but they are not English-friendly. If I didn't already own all the films individually I'd buy the Australian Wu Xing 3D collection:

From what I can remember the 3D is good (native, not converted) but the film is bad.

All of those will be terrible German autoconversions. For what it's worth I own Clown in 2D but probably would have bought the 3D version if it was cheap even though I know the 3D is worthless. I watched The Strangers in 2D and didn't like it, I wouldn't buy that in any format.

Watched part of Last Unicorn in 3D. The first 15 minutes are very flat and full of errors. Poorly made 3D boxes around text, very little to no 3D in most scenes. But shortly after the unicorn meets the moth, things start to pick up and it actually looks solid.

Vicky and the Treasure of the Gods (France) Native - Supposedly, it has an English Dub

I decided to risk a purchase and was pleased to find that the disc does indeed contain an English dub track. Not only that, but the French subtitles are removeable. Phew!

I would rather watch the film in its original language (German) with English subtitles of course, but there's no release that offers that.

Yes, there is no longer cut than the R rated version (rated 18 in the UK). That version only got 2D and anaglyph 3D releases outside of Germany. There is a slightly shorter 2D cut on the UK DVD I have but I'm not sure if that made it to the US blu ray, and of course the FSK18 version is the shortest of all - watch that and you'll think your player is skipping...

Yes, Ratatouille is often erroneously listed as Region Free but it is most definitely Region B locked.

My concern is whether it has English subtitles, rare for a German release, but not unprecedented... if it isn't English friendly it isn't going on the list.
that's what I wanna know will Mojin have English subtitles, also be region A friendly as well as it having the IMAX VAR, originally shown in IMAX 3D with the IMAX scenes presented in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio. haven't heard if it will have english subtitles or not.

Seems there are a lot more titles on blu ray 3D for Region B from what I've seen over the years and in this thread, compared to the exclusives for the US 3D market.

Mojin has been confirmed as having English subtitles and IMAX scenes, and as being region B locked:

There are aspect ratio shifts like in some Hollywood movies but it is mainly in scope. The disc has English subtitles but you have to get through the German menu first.

With my Player set to A, I get the typical 'Sorry - wrong region' screen. It was to be expected from a small independent label.
I've now watched it and agree that the 3D is excellent.

Region B tends to have more animations and low budget horrors while Region A has more vintage 3D and stuff from Hong Kong and Japan - it hugely sucks that region coding still exists, there are classics unique to each region so you really can't be a proper 3D movie fan if you don't have dual region capacity.

Default Other region 3D releases that are actually all region

Sorry if this has been posted about already, but I'm fairly new here and not used to the particulars of searching Blu-ray.com forums for a certain topic.

Any members routinely buy 3D titles from outside the U.S. (particularly Amazon UK), and who have discovered they play in U.S. players?

As an example, I'm thinking of a couple of Disney titles that were advertised on Amazon UK as being region 2, but were actually all region. After discovering they were both all-region, I ordered them from Amazon UK. Frozen was one, forget the other. Right now I'm on vacation so I can't check my collection for the the other title.

What I'm looking to find is some single source (hopefully here) of information about recent (and upcoming) other region 3D releases that are actually multi-region / all region releases... even though they are advertised as specifically some other region. Particularly titles that aren't getting a U.S 3D blu-ray release.

If there's already a thread (or other source) that covers this, please point me in that direction.

Many thanks.

AGGGGG!!! Just realized this is posted in the wrong forum. Can't figure out how that happened. If a mod could move it to the correct one, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, apart from the packaging of course, the German edition is fully English-friendly i.e. it has the English title on the film and no forced subs.

I recall "The Last Emperor" also got a Region-B 3D BD a while ago. Has anyone seen it, and does the OP want to include it in this thread?
