I can see where you are coming from with wanting to see more of your favourite actors in certain roles but ultimately they are a hired gun and I don't think an actor should hang around beyond what the story calls for.

For me the use of Russell Crowe was perfect in Man of Steel; he was able to effectively mentor his son through his heroes journey while also lock horns with his nemesis even after his death. Erasing his conciousness from the ship was the end of his character and I don't think their was much else to do with him after that point. He has imparted his wisdom to his son and from here on it had to be Kal El's choices and decisions that dictated his actions. His father set him on the path but that's all he needed to do.

Michael Shannon was also perfectly utilised as his showdown with Superman particularly after losing the other Kryptonians back to the Phantom Zone was always going to be a final showdown rather than a 'until next time' sort of thing.

That's why I believe Pine as Steve Trevor was also used correctly; he showed Diana the honesty of man's world both the good and the bad. He gave her a taste of love on a personal level
[Show spoiler]and then also loss
. For me his journey in the narrative is complete but I'm no screenwriter (just a wannabe one) so a writer may have a great idea to
[Show spoiler]resurrect him
and prove me wrong entirely.

I can see it now. An inconsolable Diana walking around with a few pieces of Steve in a flower pot.

"pushed aside"?? She was an old woman in a nursing home in TWS (a very emotional, moving scene) and died in CW. What kind of chemistry did you expect to see?

By pushed aside do you mean having her own TV show?

I haven't seen this in a week now, and it was a late showing, so I may have dozed off here and there, and maybe I'm playing a bit of devil's advocate, but if you were to change the name of this movie to Super Spy, couldn't this be more a movie about Steve Trevor than Wonder Woman? I mean i get at the beginning we learn about kid Diana, but once Steve shows up doesn't it really follow his story? He starts by saving Diana, then saves the world. All Wonder Woman really does is take care of Ares, who wasn't really a threat. I mean wars happen after he's defeated right?

I just liked them a bit more and I disagree that the ones in First Avenger had more development, I feel it was about equal. I think I prefer the actors in WW too.

They're stock characters with their own sole purpose: The damaged one, the comic relief, and the serious one. What more do you need and want? It's not about them. It's about Diana and her journey tagging along with them.

And no, most of the side characters from The First Avenger were just as one-dimensional. Again, it's not about them. Gimme a break...

I honestly don't remember any of the side characters from First Avenger besides Peggy, and Bucky. I felt the side characters in WW were definitely more memorable. They had a goofy likeable charm to them not unlike the characters you'd find in action/adventure movies like Indiana Jones, and the (Brendan Fraser) Mummy movies.

I wasn't the one who derailed the thread. You brought up MS just to trash them as usual but in a DC thread.

WW "saved DCEU" isn't exactly nonsense. Man of Steel was good in my eyes but after the previous two films they needed to show they could still put out a quality film. Wonder Woman was that film. I've seen numerous people who were also disappointed with BvS and hated SS but now have a more positive outlook on the future of the DCEU because of WW.

I'm not one of those who trashes the DCEU across the board like some fanboys. I just call out bad movies when I see them, regardless if it's a superhero film or not.

As for Wonder Woman, I'm looking forward to a second viewing and hopefully WB/DC keeps all their future movies similar in tone since WW hit the right marks as far as superhero films should go.

The only other one I can think of is Dum Dum Dugan, the bowler-wearing cigar-smoking guy. That group was no more memorable than the guys in WW.

I thought the side characters in both were very memorable.

Chief has lost everything. He has no place to really call home. Sameer wanted to be an actor but experienced racism so he put his telents to use elsewhere. Charlie used to be a cold blooded sniper, but now he has lost his nerve and no longer has what it takes for war. But all three come together to help, not because of Wonder Woman or money, but because of Steve Trevor and wanting to do what it right.

Who could forget the Howling Commandos? Dum Dum Dugan has the benefit of also being in an episode of Agent Carter and in a Marvel short, but he is just iconic to me. The other have a lot of good one liners too. "I'm from Fresno, Ace."
