Daredevil gets a lot of hate 'round these parts I see. I thought the Director's Cut was pretty good.

Agreed. The DC is almost another movie entirely. A pretty good movie overall.

Same here. I like the DC of Daredevil just fine.

I was dissapointed in TMNT2, they lightened it up because too many parents complained the first one was too dark. Ninja Rap saves face, makes for good nostolgic cheese.

Some of my worst:
Catwoman - could not make it through the whole thing
Spider-Man 3
Batman & Robin
Crow Sequels. I think the last one is the only one I did not see.
Blade Trinity
Steel
Electra
Ghost Rider
Spawn
Hulk - I still have no idea what that ending was supposed to be.

Based on what I've seen thus far, the first that comes to mind is Punisher: War Zone. I don't mind over-the-top acting, but this was just beyond ridiculous. I didn't mind Ray Stevenson's performance as Castle, but everyone else was downright terrible. I've heard some bad, cheesy dialogue in my time, and this ranks among the very top. I'm not sure if all of this was intentional on the part of the director and writers, but it's as painful a movie experience as anything I've endured. It was just horrendous.

Seems like people love it around here, but I could not stand Dick Tracy.

Dick Tracy was awful. Another recent contender is Jonah Hex. It was clear to me that the movie was green-lit before a script was developed. You can tell the executives wanted the style of a movie like 300 for it without much further thought put into the story. John Malkovich sleepwalks through the role of main villain.

Nah, it's pretty awesome and true to the MAX series by Garth Ennis.

My vote goes to X3. Abysmal on every level. The only positive from that film is John Powell's excellent score. Stuff like Ghost Rider and Batman & Robin can be made fun of and enjoyed as the campy piles they are, but X3 genuinely ruined a fantastic series up to that point.

Daredevil sucks a lot too.

I'll have to take your word on this, as I haven't read this series from Garth (only his work on Preacher and Hellblazer). While I do think Stevenson's portayal of Frank Castle was truer to the graphic novels, his antagonist, Jigsaw, was far too campy and comical for me. If the tone was kept serious throughout the film, along with better dialogue, it would have offered the best representation of the Punisher (in my opinion).

The villains are typically larger than life in Ennis stories.

....which I understand because their accomplishments feed their egos, plus it's a trait that distinguishes them from the rank and file. With that said, it's hard to capture these qualities on film and still be taken seriously; it's a very fine line between crazy and comical. Heath Ledger got it right with the Joker; Dominic West did not with Jigsaw.

Ehh... I don't really agree with that. War Zone had the violence of the MAX series, but most of the time the tone reminded me more of his previous Marvel Knights Punisher series, like Welcome Back Frank, which was much more goofy black humor (okay, there was the Barracuda stuff in the MAX series, but otherwise...)

Speaking of the tone, why I didn't think the movie worked is because there was too much of an awkward clash in tone going on. On the one hand, everything seems to be goofy humor (Jigsaw and his annoying psycho-brother, the way Castle kills criminals, etc), EXCEPT for the story-arc where Punisher accidentally murders the undercover agent. You have this very dark, serious story about Castle having to deal with the guy's wife and kids, but in the face of the rest of the film is doesn't fit in.

Finally, I hated the visual look of the movie. Fans complained in the Tom Jane flick that the movie was set in Tampa Bay and didn't resemble the gritty, urban, New York look of the comics, but I think War Zone failed equally. All the neon-lighting used reminded me more of Joel Schumacher's acid-trip Gotham City than New York.

So, yeah, I'm not a fan of Punisher: War Zone.

loved that movie!! I thought it played just like a comic book with over the top villains and action scenes! It was highly enjoyable and very funny in spots-- so funny to see how movies effect people differently....

i agree. the only thing i would have changed was Jigsaw and his brother, they were TOO over the top and cartoonish but aside from that the movie was Garth Ennis Punisher MAX on film to a T. the dialogue, the violence, the color palette etc were great. Ray Stevenson even looks exactly how Leandro Fernandez draws him. far from perfect but leaps and bounds the best Punisher movie.
