Yes, it's Bluetooth and not IR, so the PS3 only works with the dedicated Bluetooth remote.

Unless you want a USB IR solution plugged into the front which looks bad. Sony should have put a least one USB port on the back!

Agreed. Even though I really like the PS3 remote.
