Default PS3 is outselling 360 in North America. Has the tide shifted?

Quote:
Hardware: Console Weekly Total Week Ending 7/14 show the PS3 at 41,005 and the 360 at 35,084 a difference of 5,921. Other hardware numbers are listed below.

DS 97,404
Wii 76,394
PSP 50,890
PS2 43,406
PS3 41,005
X360 35,084
GBA 14,451
GC 1,864
Xbox 11
I know that its only been 1 week and a half, since the price drop but do you think the tide is slowly turning in Sony's favor?

I think its way way way to early to tell, plus the fact the 360 has been out a year longer, PS3 needs to be outselling it.

Unfortunately, I think it's just a blip from the price drop, but I really do hope it continues.

I think it is more then a blip but not yet at tide is turning. I think by Christmas, the sales between the three will be closer then it is now.

Usually having been around that much longer is an advantage because of the greater selection of games. Obviously the PS3 pricedrop and all the great gaming news has helped but I'd still expect the 360 to be selling better than it is.

Default nice

and it goes without saying but i'll say it anyway -

with every ps3 sold, a blu-ray player is sold. with every xbox 360 sold - an xbox 360 is sold. genius.

Thats true, but if you look at the Wii why is it selling so damn well. I own one and it collects dust haha.

Default Ex-360

I'd bet the X360s sales are down because of the bad rap they're getting about the flaw in the systems. I have a friend whose X360 contracted the Red Ring of Death last week. Now it's just an Ex-360. I had him over my place and showed him the PS3. He was impressed with it, particulalry with Blu-Ray. Once people see the quality of the system, it sells itself.

I looked at the previous weeks at VGChartz. That's the second week in a row the 360 has sold 35K or less. The PS3 had a huge jump from 17.7K to 41K! My PS3 was one of those! An excellent BDay present to me!

We'll have to wait and see how things turn out by the end of this year.

These numbers will flow to Xbox 360 when Halo 3 comes out. PS3 still has no 'it' game going for it (though my family/friends really enjoyed playing Motostorm when I showed off the PS3 last visit).

You know, I don't really see Halo 3 as a system seller, most of the people who like Halo, already have a 360.

Factoid: PS3 still outselling Wii at Amazon

I am frankly surprised, but glad.

Games sell consoles and I think Xbox 360 is in a better position with their holiday line up and throw in the fact that they will probably have a price cut of their own in the coming months, I think that those two things are in Microsofts favor. Plus remember iPTV hasn't been released yet, or I think Microsoft calls it Media Room or something like that. That in itself may also spur higher console sales.

It should be pointed out that right now everyone of those new PS/3 owners have the choice of:

(a) Getting five free movies
(b) Refusing five free movies

Which does everyone suppose will be the most likely choice?

Do those movies count toward the official sales tally?
