While I'm on the subject of lesser-known real 3D horror films, here are some other interesting ones you can only get from Germany:

Thanks! I actually ogled a few of those on eBay today wondering if I should buy. Very helpful post, thanks!

I'm not sure if this is a conversion or what, but I can see the case where folks might be underwhelmed by this 3D. It has a kind of pop-up book quality. Fair amount of depth, but not always a whole lot to differentiate backgrounds and foregrounds. No strong pop-out effects. But I still find it pleasing to watch--the picture is very clear and sharp with no evidence of ghosting.

This movie holds up well too. Rise didn't really wow me now like it did back in 2011--Dawn is cinematically eloquent, thematically deep, and pathologically evocative.
Interesting. I find the 3D in this film incredibly satisfying. Any of the scenes in the forest and ape village offer amazing vistas and even the individual hairs of the apes' fur is effectively rendered in 3D. There isn't a lot of DEEP 3D but every scene has several layers and great separation. The preview for upcoming War of the Apes looks decidedly less effective. I was very disappointed by every trailer I've seen in 3D this far.

Even though I wouldn't say this is one of the strongest 3D films in my collection, next to Jupiter Ascending, it is definitely one of my favorite 3D films. For some reason, I have watched those two 3D films more than any other (and I LOVE my KimchiDVD Lenti slip that switches between the four ape's faces)!

Does anyone know if these are these autoconversions, or are they halfway decent conversions?

Turn Automotion off.
It has different names on different brands.
Different manufacturers call it different things, but it's almost always listed as something like "MotionFlow," "Auto Motion," "Smooth Motion" "ClearFrame," or something similar.
Just make sure its is off.
Not only does it make films look like video - it is actually ruining the original image. It ADDS frames that don't exist.
So, like pan and scan - it is ALTERING the original intentions of the filmmakers.

Beware of German 3D blu rays. These are the equivalent of running a movie through a 3D converter on a laptop and selling them.
Example: Daybreakers 3D. There was never an official 3D converted version.
This is Backalley 3D. And all accounts are that it is terrible and leaves you with a splitting headache.

Watched Big Hero 6 3D with the family tonight. This is a 3D UK import movie.

This is a stellar presentation, I really can't say enough good things about this disc.

Color, detail, and 3D were astounding. Lots of great 3D shots and perspectives here.

The production design of the city was really in-depth, the locations felt almost real.

There's a ton of detail and character in the locations, I really appreciate that effort.

Some movies (like Sing), feel a bit phoned-in due to generic low-detail backgrounds.

The story of Big Hero 6 flirts with Scooby-Doo moments but still manages to satisfy.

Story-wise, this movie is about 100x better than Moana and Brave (for me anyway).

Finally, the credits were kinda meh and the Stan Lee thing left me totally cold and confused.

Nevertheless, this disc is Highly Recommended. There's also a 3D short, Feast.

I watched Dredd in 3D last night. I'm still not completely sold on 3D, but it's growing on me. At least it looks better at home, I don't care for the theaters. I'll continue to give it a chance.

13thman could you please confirm that all of the above are English friendly in terms of having English audio etc. I'm looking at picking up Lost Place first but noticed that some 'foreign' names were making up the cast so is it an English language movie? I just want to be sure that English audio or subs are definitely included.

thanks!

Yes, they are all English-friendly.

Lost Place was filmed in German but the disc has English subtitles so no problems there. One of the stars, Jytte-Merle Böhrnsen, is also in The Forbidden Girl but that one was filmed in English.

Bunker Of The Dead was filmed mainly in German but it's all shot POV style (like Hardcore Henry) so plays fine with the English dub -there are no subtitles on that disc.

All the 3D releases of of Uwe Boll's films are autoconversions, and the Bloodrayne films are no exception. It's trash but I have a soft (or should I say hard) spot for the unrated cut of the first movie so I bought the Black edition, which is available in 2D only. The 3D version is not the unrated cut, otherwise I might have bought it, even though I know the conversion won't be any good. I don't like the sequels, so wasn't tempted to buy those.

I suspected as much, but I couldn't resist getting all three for $12 US.

I wouldn't have said no at that price either.

My latest pre-orders are Terminator 2, Cars 3 and War For The Planet Of The Apes.

In the mail system are Beauty And The Beast and Smurfs The Lost Village.

Watched Star Trek Beyond last night. Wife liked it. 3D made you feel more involved in each scene. Nothing groundbreaking but totally trumps monocular version.

The video games were fun. I liked the first Bloodrayne movie, but I'm not real picky.
