Default A Sequel to The Phantom!!

man i loved this movie. it sucked so much but was so much fun

Quote:
Though they’re calling this a sequel to The Phantom, it doesn’t sound like it will be a direct sequel. For instance, unlike the 1996 movie this won’t be a period piece. They’re setting it in the modern day. There’s also no mention of digging up Billy Zane. Instead producer Bruce Sherlock, who also produced the 1996 movie, says they’re looking for “top talent”. With $87 million to spend on it, they may get just that. Unless it’s 1995 all over again, that definitely precludes the return of Zane.

This new movie, which they’re calling The Phantom Legacy, will focus on a father/son relationship and according to screenwriter Tim Boyle, it’ll also deal a lot with the concept of destiny.
Producer Bruce Sherlock, who also served as executive producer of the first Phantom movie, said the new film will be a marked improvement over its predecessor, which received mixed reviews.

"It has the makings of a blockbuster," Sherlock told The Associated Press. "There's some surprises that will thrill the Phantom fans worldwide." Sherlock's Sydney-based Sherlock Symington Productions won the rights to the film.

The movie will likely be shot entirely in Australia, with production set to begin within six to nine months, Sherlock said. Producers are in talks with several "top talent" Australian and American actors, Sherlock said. He declined to provide names.

Always loved The Phantom, yep the 96 movie was cheesie like a jar of Cheese Whiz but I love it Will be fun to have a new Phantom.

Now we need a reboot of Flash Gordon and of Buck Rogers and I will be very happy.

I love the character, and the film wasn't that bad. I do say phooey though to setting it in modern times. The books (I have them all) were set in that earlier era, and that's one of the main parts I love about them.

I agree with you, setting it in that period just make it more fun. Certain things are better done in that time period, from the 1910's to the 1940's.

Rocketeer, Shadow, Phantom... all AWESOME shows. The radio dramas are MUCH better than the movies though. Well, the Rocketeer was an awesome movie that I'd love to get on BD, but the Shadow and Phantom weren't so great. New movies on those would be great! If you haven't yet, listen to the radio dramas for the Shadow on iTunes. Very cool stuff.

I agree with the time period too, just think it would work better that way.

i watched rocketeer recently, its just as good--if not better--than when i used to watch it as a kid. great story and great action. not sure why so many people hated it.

Any ideas as to who will star as the Phantom? I did like Billy Zane in the original, but I would guess that they will cast someone else.

I thought Billy Zane was cast perfectly in the first Phantom but he has obviously fallen off the map.

i love the the phantom, the shadow and the rocketeer and i would love to see a remake of those three movies. or at least to see them come to blu-ray soon, and while speaking of out of the ordinary super-hero i would love to see darkman come to blu-ray soon too.

Rocketeer was good. Never seen The Phantom except the first few minutes when he was riding the horse. The Shadow I didn't really like when it came out. I like it now. People who like comic book movies now need to give The Shadow a shot.
