Default The Phantom Returns?

I had no idea they were making another Phantom movie (I'm usually on top of upcoming movie projects). Don't know if it's a reboot or a sequel. I enjoyed the version from 1996, so I hope they bring back Billy Zane.

Have you ever read the comics? I've been reading and following the adventures of "The Ghost Who Walks" for well over 20 years, more comics than I know what to do with. I hope if they are making another, if comes out better than that movie, which being a fan, I thought was less than impressive. Sure some people like it.

I did enjoy the 1996 one, I am glad they are making a new one.

I watched the first one but I can't remember it. May have to do a rewatch soon.

Wish they would make another Shadow.

Apparently, Sony acquired the rights to the movie and wanted Sam Raimi to make it. It's been a life-long dream project of his. But I guess it will have to wait until Spiderman 4 and 5 are finished.

Sweet. I was just thinking about the first Phantom when driving around today. Strange, I haven't thought about it in awhile and then this comes up. Hopefully it has a better tagline than "Slam Evil!"

Yeah, I remember reading about his desire to make the first Shadow, but he wasn't able to do so. Thus he made his own version in Darkman. I would love for him to do a Shadow movie though.

Oh, heck yeah!! I'll be there opening night!! I love the Phantom. I've been collecting paperback and comic books of the character since the 70's. I also have the Defenders of the Earth DVD sets. I agree that the movie was a little cheesy. I wish they had put a darker edge to it.

I wish more pulp characters would be made into movies like Doc Savage (an updated one), and the Spider. How about a sequel to the Shadow? Hopefully the upcoming Spirit movie doesn't stray far from the story. They seem to be doing the opposite thing from the Phantom. They apparently are making the Spirit, which was a light-hearted character, into a darker type movie.

If The Phantom or The Shadow ever get relaeased on Blue, however, they will be a first day buy for me.

Me too. The Phantom is a great movie along the lines of The Shadow, Hellboy, or The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. A fun action flick. I like the era these movies take place in. Can't wait.

Default this thread and the other are for 2 different movies

so i did some quick research and discovered this thread and the other one are for 2 totally different movies. "The Ghost Who Walks," which is the movie you link to in the original post, was supposed to be a sequel for the Phantom and has been in development hell for a long time.

On the other hand, the other thread which I started earlier deals with a completely different Phantom movie called "The Phantom Legacy" that has yet to be announced as a reboot or sequel, but it seems like it will be more of the former.

CinemaBlend explains:
Quote:
Interestingly at one point, back in 2002, Hyde Park Entertainment was also supposed to be working on a Phantom sequel called The Ghost Who Walks. This doesn’t seem to be the same movie, though it’s certain to impact any plans Hyde Park might have, should such plans still exist.

I think I would rather just see a direct sequel with Billy Zane even though I know that it will never happen. This Australian guy's script sounds a bit too much like Indiana Jones 4 with the whole father-son angle, and we all know how badly that turned out.

But any Phantom is better that no Phantom. I'm a fan of the character and I just want to see him in the spotlight again.
