Tomb Raider (2018)

Doesn't really look that good. With MoviePass I'll probably see it in theaters, but I couldn't help, but think "meh" when the trailer finished.

I don't think you have been paying attention to the video game reboot this game is tied to, she is much more normal looking then the Lara you are thinking of...

According to the programmers, Lara's large bust in the original game was a mistake. At any rate the reboot Lara is much better and more realistic for someone who jumps and climbs around.

The real reason she's bad for the role is her lack of personality and charisma. She has the personality of a brick, which was fine for Ex Machina, but not for this role.

CGI looks absolutely atrocious. But I'll sit and watch 2 hours of Alicia V in anything she's in. Sign me up.

Before watching the trailer, here's what I expect from a film adaptation of the 2013 game (which admittedly I've only seen bits of played on Youtube):

* Taiko drums

* Heavy breathing

* Sweat matted hair

* Intense stares

* Expressionist rainfall

Ehhh... she's so generic looking... and dare I say simply not attractive enough, bit like the rest of the trailer really. She just looks like anybody except Lara Croft to me. Jolie kinda nailed the look in 2001. If this is an origin story it also falls into the same trap Ghost In The Shell did earlier this year; she's not the aggressive b*tchin' character everyone loves and has to "become" her- only to never become her because the films flops and the sequel doesn't happen.

There's no referencing or distinguishing between the various videogame incarnations of Lara Croft at all in this post. If you're gonna make an idiotic, superficial, chauvinistic comment about Vikander's physique, at least have the balls to admit what you are saying.

Oh man. Where to begin. For starters it looks pretty bad. Makes me want to play the game instead. Even the scenes taken directly from the game look meh. The story for the Tomb Raider games is the worst part of them so there is no way the story will be anything good. And what the hell is with Lara Croft must stop the bad guys to save the world. So lame and cliche. Why can’t they just make smaller stories that are character focused. The whole save the world crap belongs in superhero movies. Not this. This will fail just alike Assassins Creed did and any future Uncharted movie will. Finally, the last shot of the trailer is definitely the final shot of the movie. Finish with a joke cause that is what this movie will be.

Agreed for the most part, although I think The Angel of Darkness had a cracking story. They should've just adapted that.

I love the game in all its beautiful deformity, but yeah, a polished version with improved controls would be delicious. It still irks me that we never got the two other installments in the trilogy.

And then there's Core Design's remake of the original game, cancelled in favour of Crystal Dynamics' 'reimagining'.

I never quite understood the fondness people have for the core design games, they have some of the worst controls EVER, I kept bouncing off the demos since the mid 90s. The Crystal Dynamics games are much better just because you don't have to wrestle with bad controls, even Underworld is never quite as bad as the old games.

While Assassin's Creed didn't break any box office records I enjoyed it and watched it twice. Hopefully I feel the same way with this one. Because I think it is too early to be judging a movie solely on a trailer. Anyway, I'm going to stop there. As I don't want to come off confrontational

Meh, the control system never bothered me. So long as you're precise and understand the mechanics of the grid system, they work fine.

ASSassins Creed was a waste of technical and casting talent. I didnt give a hoot about what was going on, because nothing was developed. There was also zero excitement since the action was nothing more than a guy attached to to some harness gadget swinging around simulating all the cool parkour and action that happened centuries ago. A humorless, hollow, pandering fangasm for gamers which from what I read and hear didn't even please fans.

This trailer for Tomb Raider looks like another video game bomb waiting to drop in the cinemas. It also bares the same kind of aesthetic as the post 90's Tomb Raider films, so nothing different or fresh is on display here. Not to mention Vikander comes off as wooden and bored. Very disappointing indeed.

She's a tomb raider...literally. What else do you expect people to be finding in a gravesite, that could potentially threaten humanity? I doubt anyone would believe Lara Croft trying to stop a zombie invasion.
