Theaters with kiosks are absolutely preferable since it cuts down wasted time lining up at the box office to officially purchase your ticket, most especially if that theater does assigned seating and seats are beginning to run out.

Also, don't wait to "check in" right before you're called up next at the box office. Sometimes the cell reception can vary and take more seconds than expected. Usually, I've been doing that the moment I pull into a parking spot, then I leave my car while it's loading the funds and confirming my selection.

So those who encountered this problem what did you do? I was looking into seeing BR2049 but all the showings said IMAX 3d in 3 different groups and the exact same time. All of them were grayed out and I was like that's not possible.

Did you try refreshing the app or even closing it, then reopening it? Maybe it was a reception issue depending where you were standing. All of them being grayed out does seem odd.

I've used the kiosk every time that I've used MP. Certainly cuts down on the wait. As no one is ever there to use it.

I usually load the funds and sign in while i'm walking up to the theater.

That means your phone has pretty dependable reception at the theater.

yeah, it's basically right in front of the theater. Just need to have the location on. And even if its on. You might have to turn it off and turn it back on to work fine. happen last Friday the first time I went to use it. Later on i turned it off and on and worked fine.

Some days it seems like they have glitches like that - I have had days where only half of the movies showing were even listed in the app, and other days when showtimes were grayed out for no reason.

You could buy a ticket and try to contact them for reimbursement, but I wouldn't count on any kind of timely response right now. You're better off just buying a ticket for a different movie, then exchanging it at the box office for your BR2049 (non-IMAX, 2D) ticket. Just say you decided to see something different.
Some people also say you could just check in to another flick and then buy the BR ticket at the theater with the MP card and they'd never know the difference, but I would just be safe and take the extra couple minutes to do the exchange route. But that's just my personal preference.

P.S. in what I'm not sure we write off as another glitch or just the ignorance of an employee there, after 12 days they are still using the poster art for the 1990 Flatliners instead of the new one

I would have liked to have seen Wind River before it leaves theaters this Thursday... IF I HAD MY MOVIEPASS!!!

Oh wait...

!!!!!!!!

This baby came in the mail today and I took it to Wind River. I checked in the app and reserved for the 7:20 and it actually said DECLINED first. I was freaking out. Turns out I didn't have my location settings on for the app in my phone. Once I activated that, it worked like a charm. Mother! will be leaving my city on Thursday, so I will either catch that tomorrow or Thursday. I am gonna be going to see Blade Runner a lot the next few weeks to help them get that box office up. Cannot believe almost two months later I finallly have it in my position and I used it without any hiccup. Already have The Foreigner, Fifth Element and Rocky Horror (local movie theater here shows classics), more Blade Runner for the next few days.

Then next week The Snowman, more Blade Runner. The rest of the month there's possibly Leatherface, definitely Jigsaw, Suburbicon, and more and more Blade Runner.

Why does it say "Card valid only at Movie Pass Theaters"????

Some teenager working at my local AMC will probably reject my card and tell me "Sorry but this isn't a Movie Pass theater. It's an AMC theater""

Assuming that if the theater doesn't show up on the APP it won't work. No idea to be honest. Your local teenager can't do a thing. I'm not sure why he would look at the card. Most teens working behind the counter would just take your card, swipe it and not even look at it. They're either in a hurry (even if there's nobody behind you and not busy) or simply don't care.

There are some chains (such as Landmark theaters) which do not accept Movie Pass at all, as well as some theaters (from what I've seen, those with recliners which charge a premium for their seating) which don't appear in the Movie Pass app at all. Though as long as a theater appears in the app, you should be able to check in there.

BTW, I first got the card just in time for opening weekend of It, and I saw on my credit card that the second charge was issued on 10/9 (with the first charge being on 8/21 when I signed up). So indeed for people still worried, it is a month after you actually receive and activate your card that you are charged again.

It just says that so people wont try to load up funds and spend it at Walmart or something.

The thing about some theaters not accepting it is false. They can say whatever they want, but it will work at any theater that accepts Mastercards, and businesses are not allowed to accept some Mastercards and not accept others based on the logo on it.
If you have a theater that tries to deny you, always use a self serve kiosk if they have one. Otherwise, complain to Mastercard and get them in trouble

...now if a theater is all specialty premium seats or screens, it may not work there as MP only covers regular shows.

Have you ever dealt with a teenager. They don't care about anything. You'll be fine.

Another interesting question that just came to mind. So I bought my Imax ticket to see the new star wars on Monday for what the theater is charging. The next day the theater jacks up the price by 20 cents for the same movie. How does the app/card know how much to put into the account since each theater the prices vary (like one regal will charge 1 dollar or so more than another regal in the next town over).

The app receives information from ticketing services as to the price at that theater and loads that amount on your card when you check in.

Though apparently when prices are raised, they may not catch up right away, in which case your card would be declined when trying to purchase a ticket (though with IMAX showings it should be declined anyway).

I'm going to watch Star Wars 50 times with this.

But really, used it for the first time yesterday on Blade Runner and it worked perfectly. Was matinee, only $5, but already made half my money back with one trip. Pretty awesome.

Well I am not trying to use it to see an IMAX movie but I was using the example for the price increase on not only IMAX but for regular screenings as well.

I am going to try this out sometime today or tomorrow and see what happens.
