Hell, I'd definitely go up to $50 a month for this. That's 4 movie tickets in my area. And I go to more than 4 movies a month with or without Moviepass.
I primarily go to matinees on the weekend because I go to bed pretty early to get up and run. However should I return to school I will almost certainly drop this, as I doubt I will even be going to he movies once a month after that happens.

They will eventually go back to +$20.00 price plan. A lot of people including myself didn’t really know of the service when it was $35.00. They’ve gotten almost 600k new subscribers. That’s 600k new feet in the door. I’d say once the price goes up to $20 I can still see at minimum 20-30% of that base still staying. A lot of my friends say they would pay $30+ for it if they had known about it. They’re projecting 3.1 milion users by next summer. They’re going to have a lot of valuable data to bargain with the theaters + studios. In about 2.5 months they’ve managed to become a household name and brand. All the theaters I frequent with now have MoviePass signs near the counter (something like MoviePass accepted here or MoviePass cAnnot Be used for concessions). Not surprisingly it’s the independent theaters with these signs more out in front. They see the value of it. Even if AMC tries to push back their business they lose by denying MP will be business smaller chains will jump at the chance to bring that traffic in.
I keep seeing variations of "the data they're gathering is so valuable to theatres" being thrown around. It really isn't. Nearly all theatres have their own version of a loyalty program. Stubs, Crown Club, Connections, etc.: They all collect your demographics and viewing information. They know what times you go, what you see, and your age/gender/personal background. All information you volunteered to provide them when you signed up, and it cost them what, the occasional $2 coupon toward a hot dog? The theatres already have this "valuable" data without ever having to engage with MoviePass at all. And if studios wanted this data, they would have approached theatres for it a long time ago.

Or at least that I can get too anyway.

There is a old second run theater a few towns over. But that's only open on the weekends and I don't think that accepts MP.

Just received a Jigsaw survey from MoviePass.

It was a terrible Saw movie, even by terrible Saw movie standards. There's your survey, MoviePass.

Is this a one-off or are we gonna get surveys (read: spam) for movies now?

I don't think I've gotten a single email from MoviePass since signing up.

I was thinking of rebooting this thread with a new OP with a complete FAQ and explanation of how it works to avoid all the repeat questions. The original OP of the thread was made in 2012, and the person who made it hasn't been on the site in almost 5 months.
I figured I already run the movie cash thread, and this kind of falls into the same category, so I might as well step up and help out

Does anyone have any objections? Obviously I would be open to input and suggestions from everyone to make sure it is complete.

From someone just jumping into MoviePass, this is something I would greatly appreciate if you have the desire and time, for sure.

So I got an email today from MoviePass regarding a change to their terms and service. After going through it I saw this...

(1) see one (1) 2D film per calendar day through MoviePass; (2) see a 2D film title only one time through MoviePass.

So I know initially before the price change you could not see the same title more than once, then after the price change people said that changed, that now you could see a movie more than once.

But now after seeing this in the latest terms... is it back to only once per title? or was it never changed in the first place.
I haven't tried seeing a film title more than once yet.

The "see the same movie as many times as you want" was only ever posted to their social media. The T&Cs have always been 1 title, 1 time.

It could be an easy way for them to dump heavy users once they become desperate to do so, since if you've seen a movie more than one time you have violated their T&Cs.

The terms: https://www.moviepass.com/content/terms

2.3. A valid MoviePass subscription to the Service entitles you to: (1) see one (1) 2D film per calendar day through MoviePass; (2) see a 2D film title only one time through MoviePass; and (3) a single seat, depending on availability, for a 2D film showing open to the general public.

MoviePass reps told people repeatedly that it was now allowed after the relaunch/price change/whatever, so either they just never changed the text, or they are changing it back, in which case that's some serious bait-and-switch for the thousands who subscribed based on the offer at the time. They are gonna have a riot on their hands if they try to change that conventiently just in time for some major repeat-viewing titles like Star Wars, Thor, and Justice League.

I sent both a FB and Twitter DM to MoviePass customer service to get clarification on the discrepancy. I will let you know as soon as I get a reply (...well, IF they reply)

They're going to have a riot when they raise prices or go under anyway. I very much doubt they care if people get mad about it.

"But they tweeted--!!" isn't gonna work against the legal T&Cs which everyone agreed to upon signing up-- IF they decide to go there.

That's true, they have their data. However, they don't have the data of their competitors which is just as valuable.

I used to work at a company that gathered similar data and sold it to the Studios. It was the same situation, each Studio can get their own data, but they don't know what the others are getting. That company is moving towards a $1b valuation now. The value isn't just in the data itself, it is in the analysis of the data and how you use it. It is in the predictiveness that you can make with that data which is worth millions. That is what Moviepass needs to figure out. They need a strong team of data engineers to package what they know to be able to sell it back to the theaters and Studios. That will be how they succeed or fail in the long run.

In the meantime, take advantage while you can.

If I'm not mistaken, aren't we guaranteed and locked into $10/month for a full year?

Yes.

Sure, they might up it after that and we will all have to reconsider, but at least until then I am going to get the most out of it and enjoy it while I can.

People stated if you signed up in the first couple days of the price change that you were locked in for the year, but I signed up on the 2nd day of announcement and i never saw it state this on the sign up page.

If the "once" restriction ever does change, I guess we will just have to buy lots of tickets to random other movies we don't want to see and exchange them for our repeats.

I also heard the first month was going to be free, but I 100% was charged for every month I've had it now. So, yeah, I'm not sure. I'd love to be locked in for a year. But if not, I'll take it as it comes.

When I first tried to sign up after the price drop it had a free trial period offer, but my order wouldnt go through. When I tried to sign up through a separate (non-trial month) link, it went through. I think the free trial was a leftover from before the price change/relaunch that they just forgot to remove in the very beginning.

*again ONLY on their social media. Good luck finding that 1-year "guarantee" anywhere on moviepass.com.

The past doesn’t matter, they’ve officially updated their terms and conditions and notified everyone via email. I personally don’t mind abiding by such rules. I will even stick around if they raise their prices (to a degree).
