I don't really get how the term overrated applies here. his last movie did poor box office, he has no oscars or noms afaik... who is overrating him so much? you shouldn't get bent out of shape by fans on message boards, they can't "over rate" someone, they are just fans.

edit - because otherwise it just sounds like you're saying that a certain artist has too many fans which, well, doesn't actually make sense.

I was going to say something similar. Don't you have to have some sort of box office success to be considered overrated?

I think he has a cult following of fans who happen to like his style of movies. Everyone else just happens to hate him.

Pulp Fiction was grounbreaking! It was one of those few movies that had such great characther development and so many twist and turns. It was amazing! First viewing... The scene where Bruce Willis went to go back for his watch... I was on edge like never before. Riveting!

I didn't like Dogs, but thought Jackie Brown was solid. Kill Bill 1 and 2 were great films in my opinion and were also groundbreaking in their own right, especially Tarantino's version of a Kung Fu flick.

Excited for Basterds!

Variable, you are making alot of sense. Considering his entire body of work, you can do much worse than QT. I haven't seen the Grindhouse films, and didn't love From Dusk Til Dawn, but on the whole I find his style refreshing and his story telling skilled.

no, by overrated i mean, that just becuase he makes a movies, its automatically an awesome movie. For example... what is so good about Kill Bill?? i think its overdramatic, the violence is just dumb... but becuase Tarantino did it, its awesome... if someone else made the movie, i bet a lot of people wouldnt like it...

thats the point : the fact that 99% of his movies involve mindless violence

but hey if you cant grab attention through more ingenious means...

Tarantino won an Oscar for the screenplay to Pulp Fiction, as well as the Palme D'Or in Cannes. He won a BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Independent Spirit Award for best screenplay, too. He was also nominated for those awards, and the Directors Guild of America Award, for direction, but did not win. He was nominated for an Emmy, too, for an episode of CSI he directed.

I believe only Grindhouse did poorly at the box office. Most of his films were hits, in the early days of his career.

Every one of Tarantino's movies has received fawning reviews, even when the film in question was structurally flawed. In fact, I would dare to say that Tarantino can do no wrong as far as the professional critics are concerned.

Personally, I love Reservoir Dogs, and like Jackie Brown. That's about it. I've hated every other project he's either written or directed. The two films I've mentioned by him are the only ones that seem to have genuine human emotions and responses in them. The rest are self-indulgent, campy, empty paeans to trash culture.
