Certain movies have different mix elements used in the video versions, even in mono.
Unless you remember how it played in 1969 and have confirmation someone added those FX/music you can't be sure.
I'm 100 percent sure some FX was changed. (mostly gunshots. It's more "pew, pew" rather than "bang, bang") And the music has been lowered in the Gumbolt safe scene which affects the suspense of the sequence. That's a fact. It does affect the movie if you've been watching it for years and years.

Since DVDs and Blu-rays often come from discrete elements (dialogue, music, fx) instead of TV and VHS masters - which are usually extremely compressed in dynamics which affects the overall levels - the balance is going to be different.

I hear what you're saying but it's not the case here. As James Luckard pointed out, they screwed up when remixing for the 5.1 sound or they went totally revisionist. Back in the day, music did a lot of the heavy lifting in the sound mix. The music for the Gumbolt sequence was deliberately raised to create more suspense for the sequence in the original mix. It's now been deliberately lowered in the "new" DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1.

This is the best for now, until the inevitable 4K releases.

i'd wait, since i do have the 4k player/tv but its more than likely going to be much more expensive and there is not even an ETA on it

It'll either be in the fall of 2019. If not, we might have to wait until the 60th anniversary-the end of 2022.

For fans of You Only Live Twice, I recommend the latest issue of Cinema Retro. Some of the best and complete information I've ever come across when it comes to the now 50 year old movie! Some great rare photos too. I was able to snag one at Barnes & Noble. Cinema Retro also has an awesome special magazine dedicated to just Dr. No. It's fantastic.

I got that Dr No special. Disappointed they've only devoted part of the magazine to YOLT.
I got this the other day. Recommended.

Looking across the room at it I would say like 3-4 inches. It's wider than Lord of the Rings.

Good call. According to my handy-dandy ruler, it's just a smidge under 3 inches.

Guys, is the UK "The James Bond Collection 1-24" white box with Spectre region-free, or is it really region B locked as the Amazon listing says? Are there PAL menus/extras or are all the extras 24fps? I see the US Amazon has the same set but it's double the price for the same set.
