I ordered this online from Target, and my package arrived today, but it had Captain Underpants (DVD) in it instead. Not sure how they ****ed that up.

It happens from time to time. I had ordered the Batman vs Superman digibook from them, and they sent me Roots DVD. Customer service let me keep Roots, and they express delivered the proper movie.

Yes, I thought so, too in episode 1. This can be seen in the intro. The keys of the piano or not completely in sync with the music. It seemed fine on episode 2, haven't seen the rest yet.

It's probably just a few ms off and if it wasn't so easy to see with the piano in the intro I'm not sure I would have noticed it.

Pics don't do it any justice but this whole scene from ep.5 looked gorgeous in 4K Dolby Vision...

All my other UHDs are fine in this respect.
Not on the UHD version (haven’t watched) but on the Blu-Ray it went seriously out of whack during the first or second episode. This is on Oppo 205 player. It became so annoying we rebooted everything and then it seemed fine. Weird. Never has that with a Blu before. Get it all the time on YouTube vids

I've only watched episode 1 so this gives me hope that the rest is better. I'm very sensitive to it and while I certainly noticed it on the piano intro, I was bothered by it with dialog and gunshots as well.

Your post reminded me of this great video which dissects Hopkins' performance in that scene:

No, I ended up selling it. I've seen it before, when it first aired on broadcast tv years ago.

Watched three episodes and it looks good but not amazing. The daytime western stuff looks really reddish, like a bit over the top with it. BD looks much more normal color-wise but also very flat compared to the HDR version. I guess UHD wins but not a fan of the look of the show either way really.

I found the second episode MUCH better looking than the first. It seems a lot less murky. It's also got synced audio which helps.

I too find the outdoor scenes not as good as you would think they could look (especially in episode 1 where the couple that is about to hunt the bandit sees the sheriff go bonkers). This and some other outdoor scenes looked more natural in the SDR version to me.

Again, watching the second episode had me coming to terms with the HDR 'look' and peacefully enjoying the presentation.

J. Nolan and Lisa Joy and the DP's went with a more subdued, muted look. I just wish it had received a true 4k finish given this was shot on film.

Sometimes, the image looks a bit purposefully smoothed over.

The outdoor daytime stuff looked kinda red on broadcast/HBO Go as well. Everything except skin tones at least.

Yeah I have no doubt it's intentional, it's just in HDR it looks slightly garish to me. Same with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the color highlights amidst monochromatic backgrounds thing looked neat on BD, but HDR makes it a bit too intense IMO. Still, I'd choose the UHDs for both as they overall look better, but they're not super great.

I also agree with the smoothing complaint. Can really see it on faces sometimes, and in general. Not sure why they shot on film only to smooth it out. With Superman's face CGI making headlines it makes me wonder about the eyesight of people approving these things.

I dunno about Westworld (still waiting on mine) but even though it was shot on film it was still finished digitally on a TV budget and schedule, so take that as you will. The Super 'tache removal was always bound to look flat-out odd at times in JL given that it was a reshot sequence, they were up against the gun and did the best that they can in the time that they had - they'll know it looks a bit shit but the release date is the release date, and that drawback probably applies to a fair bit of the rest of the CG in the final film too.
