How is Zavvi about returns? This is mislabeled on their website (as you guys already know). I wouldn't have purchased it otherwise. It's useless to me if it's Region B. I can't afford to buy a region-free player, at least right now, and I'm not sure I would buy one for just a single title, no matter how spectacular it is.

Will I have to pay return shipping? Geeze, if it has to be sent back to the UK, that could be pricey.

What really sucks is was unable to see this in theaters this summer because I was hospitalized. Never had the chance. Seems like this movie was made to be seen in 3D.

Yeah, I know. “Boo hoo.” It’s just frustrating, is all. I don’t understand why Lionsgate doesn’t want my money.

So the Zaavi 3D steelbook for the movie is confirmed to NOT be region free as it says on the site?

Or is this still not 100% certain?

Everyone's going by the label, don't think anyone has actually popped in the disc to test out.

I'm supposed to get my Amazon UK order tomorrow, I'll test then.

Wow, I sure hope it’s playable. That would be awesome. I wasn’t going to open it, but I just might now.

I don't know about the USA. But in the UK if I buy a steelbook that is region A and I want the region B disc I just wait 6 months to a year and buy it for £3 from CEX. You must have some outlets that trade blu rays in the USA.

There's only Asian 3D blu rays for this at the moment that are region A so the likelihood of someone going through the trouble to import it from Hong Kong to get a copy then selling it to a used place is unlikely. The US/north american market didn't get a 3D release.

It is an awful shame that the US didnt get a 3D release. This film was made for 3D. This and Ghost In The Shell is some of the best 3D I have seen

I thought the 3D was quite reserved in this. King Arthur Legend of the Sword and Guardians of the galaxy 2 had much stronger 3D. Kong Skull Island did too.

I really felt like Valerian could've pushed it much more.

I can only say as we watched it last night on the projector and it blew us away. Tons of depth and wow moments.

I got this message from Zavvi and I replied them with angry message. They will refund up to 15% of the item value in postage cost? The postage cost from US to UK can be pretty expensive, and why do we have to pay the rest where the mistake was clearly theirs?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for getting in touch with us about returning your Valerian and the City of A Thousand Planets - Limited Edition Steelbook.

You will shortly receive another email which contains instructions on how to return your goods and a copy of our returns form.

Please arrange the return and obtain a Proof of Postage receipt from the post office.

Given the return was requested because of region issues, we are more than happy to refund up to 15% of the item value in postage costs.

Please send a copy of this receipt to us as an attachment through the message centre by clicking on the upload file button and browsing for your document.

As soon as the item is confirmed back into our warehouse we can arrange the refund for you.

If there is anything else that we can do, then please do not hesitate to get in touch and a member of our team will be happy to help.

Kind regards,

Zakaria

Hopefully they haven't changed their policies. I'm having the same problem getting a replacement for a damaged copy.

You're absolutely right. I plan to file a couple of consumer complaints, like with my state attorney general's office (who happens to have a handy online form for just such an occasion) and I will contact Visa to see if my card offers any protection in an instance like this. I'm not sure if the U.S. Postal Service or U.S. Customs could offer any help (probably not) or would even care if anybody complained. Might be worth a shot. Probably won't do any good, but at least it won't go unchallenged.

This was the first time I ordered from Zavvi, and it will definitely be the last. As far as I knew, their reputation was great. I'm not sure why the wouldn't bend over backward to make this right.

They sold me one thing but sent me something else. That's on them, not me or you. They need to step up and foot the bill for postage.

That;s it, then follow through. No reason to involve Attorney General or US customs which have no legal remedy for a UK company anyway. Visa control international payment without question for merchandise not delivered as contracted.
Seriously, I’m just going to copy and paste what you wrote when I email them. Thanks.

It was a sign to me when I wrote about the region coding on this disc as well as Terminator and they said they would respond and never did. I also have found that Amazon UK carries many of the same titles at a lower price and I would prefer to deal with Amazon than with a company I only know from the web. Their response to the return issue only further encourages me to cancel my orders with them and stick with Amazon for now.

From my research, it does appear like the Hong Kong version is Region A, but I haven't ever purchased a blu-ray from a non-english speaking country before. Does anyone know if the menus and movie are in english?

It is disappointing that there is no 3D United States release. It is really annoying that they then lock down (most of) the 3D discs that they put out.

Swing on over to the 3D forums here. Lots of discussion about it.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=284681

As for the HK/Asian version of blu rays there's usually a menu at the start to choose a region/language from. If it's an English language movie it will definitely have English audio along with other languages and subtitles.

Just verified on my Oppo that is is indeed Region B. Already contacted Zavvi for a full refund. I'll even mail it back if they give me a prepaid label since I am in the states.
I did buy a 2D/3D Region A copy from Play-Asia for about $35.73 shipped. I also have Great Wall and Big Hero 6 Hong Kong Blu-rays and they were legitimate and excellent qualilty.
Funny thing is I have a modded Oppo. But I only buy Region B or other Region discs if it is really rare. If it is something my wife or I will watch frequently I want Region A.
