I saw a few films I wouldn't picking up on the Blu-Ray format, but I wasn't willing to pay $30 for 10+ year old movies. Hopefuly, retailers will start discounting catalog titles soon. As for now, I'm not even buying everything on Blu-Ray. I will continue to buy standard DVDs on most titles, saving the Blu-Ray dollars for big releases like The Dark Knight, Iron Man, & The Incredible Hulk. At $30 I don't see the need to buy more dramatic films like LA Confidential and Heat on the Blu-Ray format.

u found this forum and yet you don't know about Amazon.com? U say not many titles are being stocked, but even the over-priced stores like Best Buy are starting to stock most of the titles now.
I never buy from Best Buy, cause they are terribly over-priced for almost any media. In fact, unless it is a sale item, Best Buy seldom beats online prices.
My biggest beef with this thread is why anyone who gets into blu-ray, and finds their way to this forum, (which is not the most well-known place if I judge by all my friends and relatives who I had to lead to this place, since none of them knew it) and yet your big beef with blu-ray is prices and stores not stocking the titles.
A year ago, I would have agreed with you stores were not stocking titles, but even Wal-Mart and Target are getting into the blu game now, and little by little, prices are getting better. Although online is ALWAYS the way to go to get the best deals.
From my own extensive purchase history on Amazon, I'd say the average price I pay for a title is 20 to 25. And free shipping for 25 bucks or more in purchase. It might not yet beat DVD's prices, but it is getting close.
And I would NEVER buy SD DVD over an available Blu one! You must be one of those ones who doesn't see any difference between SD and HD. Because if you really did, you would never go back to SD.
I just don't see why this thread got put out, if the HD-DVD war was still on, I'd almost say it was an attempt to flame blu-ray. Since it isn't going on, I'm a little puzzled.

Dude, seriously, unclench, chill.
I'm not flaming Blu-Ray. So far I am estatic about the performance and quality of Blu-Ray, just had a few minor complaints.
I've known about Amazon for a while, I've just never bought DVDs there, and didn't realize they were cheaper than traditional stores.
I'm glad your stores have a huge Blu-Ray library.
Last night I went to Entertainmart, Movie Exchange Company, and my local BB. Between the three stores there were 2 full isles of BR. Hopefully in my area, demand will go up and I will see more titles getting stocked.
And a quick trip to IMDB.com is all you need to find this sight.

Actually it is not that hard to find. Just google blu-ray and blu-ray.com is the first entry. Besides it is his first day on the forum, give the new guy a chance

Best Buy is usually the worst for buying blu-rays...they have select few blu-rays that might be a deal (like the band of brothers for $37 which amazon price matched shortly after), but online seems to be the way to go.

my avg. spent per title is under 19 bucks, I wait for sales.....I have over 160 titles (I know it only says 150+ but it counts box sets as single, I do not!! ).....I took advantage of buy.com's google checkout and got tons of titles for under 10 bucks....and amazons bogos, and frys awesome sales....rock hard! (also if u have a credit card, get one where u can redeem points for gift cards like I do for paypal, you get some free ones this way, usually about 2-3 a year, I pay bills with my credit card for the points and then pay it off)........if you keep ur eye out and put ur mind to it, u can get anything for cheap

Yeah, my BB has the same isle with a TV, plus a table in front of the blu-ray isle with more blu-rays on it.

BB usually has the same price or $1 more on new releases, so I will usually buy a HOT new release there, and anything else via amazon. if its not a new release I cant wait a few days.

Theres no need to pay full prices of Blu Rays at retail stores but you can sometimes find a deal if something is on sell. But look on amazon , ebay or check on the website here you can find deals on here sometime that people post.

First off to the OP - welcome to the forum and ignore the flames.

Second, I agree about the visuals for Heat, but for me - the gun fight in the city plaza would be worth the price to hear that on blu-ray. It's been one of my favorite scenes for a long time, the way the music drops and you hear the casings hitting the pavement....

I buy all Blu-ray's from Amazon. I will not buy from any retailers until they start cutting their outrageous prices.

i buy my blu-rays from amazon and when i don't want to wait i buy them from wal-mart (only cause i work there and my 10% discount usually puts it down to what amazon has it for before shipping). Amazon is the place to shop for blu's though when they are new releases. also check out walmart.com they got some prices that are pretty close to amazon's

Ok,

I'n a new guy at BLu-ray I guess. I just have one question. First let me say I have a PS3 60gig, 42" Panasonic TH-42PZ85U 1080P plasma.

My question is how come blu rays at the store look 10x better then when I play them at home. The movie Cars is a great example. In the store it looks AMAZING. At home it just looks better then dvd but not the same as the store show. Any ideas??

While all the BB stores in the Portland area are packed with a few isles of Blu-ray, I found my local Fry's Electronics has the best deals. A few catalog titles I picked up yesturday were: The Thing, Casino, U-571, Jarhead - all $11.99 (they had a ton more at that price) and new releases, I got Wall-E and TDK (both 3 disc set) for $24.99 - just an option if you have a Fry's around and don't want to wait for shipping at amazon and want it now like I usually do. Never hurts to have options for shopping around!!

Have you calibrated your TV? Are you using HDMI cables or the standard cables that came with the PS3 to hook up to the TV? Those are usually the biggest issues when someone can't tell a big difference from BD and DVD.
