Default Problem with my PS3

Hi all,
Hopefully someone on here can help me. Here's what the unit is doing. A few weeks ago I tried playing a new game(Lost Planet, if I remember right), Never could get it to go past this one screen where it showed a save thing. Never did get it to work. Yesterday I got my copy of Dark Sector. Same thing Got to the main screen where it says press start, nothing. It won't go any further. I play blurays, no problem. I play Rockband and Rock band 2 no problem. Anyone have any idea? Also tried doing the Playstation Home thing when it was available and that just sat there and would never run.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the brain just isn't thinking things through. Have you got the latest update on it?

Sure do. That's what's driving me crazy. I can usually figure out things by process of elimination but this one has me stumped.

When I checked recently after adding some wallpaper I had like 20g left. I could be off though. This may sound stupid but wouldn't it tell me if I didn't have room for something? Also I can still svae stuff like when I'm Playing RockBand 2.

Can't be an issue with the laser if you can't connect on-line either. Hey, here's an idea. Tell the unit (menu system) you don't want it to automatically connect with the internet for BD's or anything else then try again with the games and Blu-Rays. I know that if you have a slow modum and the unit is trying to connect, it'll hang forever. Just an idea. Or pull out the broadband wire from the unit.

I can connect to my broadband no problem. I have it wireless. I have tried both ways, auto log in and manual. Still have the problem with those two games. Do you happen to have a number to PS3 Tech support? Maybe I can call them and see if they can help.

No but it should be in your user's manual.

Okay, both of the games I spoke of said updates were found when I first put them in. I did the updates. Can't play the games because they get stuck at the start screen. What do you mean by cut the internet connection? Not sure I'm following you. Thanks.

Pull the broadband connection out. If it's wireless, shut it down. Wired, pull the plug out of the PS3.

Tell it not to do the updates. Pass it.

Okay, but why would that change anything in reference to the 2 games I mentioned? I play rock band 2 all the time with no problems and I go online for that. I'm trying to understand what that will do.

I tried that too. When I put in Dark Sector yesterday I did that too. When the screen came up that said update available, I hit the Back button and bypassed it. It went to the start screen and when I hit the start button it wouldn't go into the game. The controller works fine so I know it's not that.

May depend on whether the downloads are problem free or where the PS3 has to go to access the info. Just try and NOT do the updates and see what it does. And on the Blu-Rays... tell it not to connect to BD Live and see if they play. May be server issues.

Maybe the updates did not take completely. It does sound like there are issues with connection though.

try to erase all your game data and backup your game progression on a USB if you have some, and start the game as if it was the first time, then refuse the update and see if it goes well, maybe the update was corrupted
