Just judging from any comparison shots that I’ve seen so far, I see a nice organic rendering of the film grain, appreciate in most instances the subtle changes in the grading and color timing, but I fail to see anything that could be described as “new detail and things”.

Again, you guys seem very enthusiastic about the UHD version, and I trust your judgement. Just when it comes to comparison shots that can be viewed in an Internet browser (undoubtedly takes away from the quality!) even on a nice Eizo monitor or LG 2K OLED TV, I’ve yet to see substantial new detail.
Those comparison shots show a lot of extra detail on my computer monitor.

Totally get where you're coming from. It is an at times softer, at times grain-filled image, since the source is film, rather than a crystal clear sharp image that you might see from something "filmed" digitally today.

But for an example, on the right side of this one, the (upscaled) Blu-ray is a smudgy mess with compression artifacts, while the UHD has a nice fine grain. The same is true of many of the other screenshot comparisons.

Good for you! I rest my case -- I don't see it but that can have any number of reasons.

No, really, maybe I misspoke: I do see a nice organic rendering of the film grain, and that's absolutely a positive thing that I recognize even over the Internet.

I love film grain, or in more detail: The grain carries the information, and any attempt to suppress that yields to artistic disaster, so: I love film grain.

To a degree, I also understand what you mean by "smudgy" -- the UHD shots seem "calmer", "more consolidated (naturally)". I do recognize that the UHD shots (even disregarding the new grading) are of higher quality!

But in terms of details that the film as presented actually registered, picked up from the actors and sets, like: skin, fabrics, miniature detail: This is the area where I fail to see a substantial difference. So far, I think the existing Blu-Ray had pretty much picked all that up already.

I watched the BD on a Sony projector after watching the UHD on Oled 4K TV and the BD held its own, to my surprise

Just received my copy from Best Buy and even slipcover looks better than UK version! In addition this includes THREE discs rather than just two

No way this movie was made in 1982... right? What a great looking and sounding movie! This had some of the best use of surrounds I have heard in a while. I never saw this before, so this was my first experience, but for all I knew this was a relatively new movie!

This may be the best looking movie I have seen yet, in terms of catalogue releases that is. So glad I got this!

Something wrong with your 4k setup because this film is one of the biggest upgrades in terms of texture detail compared to its old blu ray counterpart. Just check out the detail in clothing in the 5mins of meeting Ford's Character while eating his noodles. The ladies hat, the clothes stitching of the guy behind the counter, the bottle on the table, the list is endless !!!!.

The use of surrounds is in fact what many are complaining about

This movie puts to shame a lot of current films. Almost surreal to see a young Harrison Ford in such a high picture resolution!

Not to pick on the poster -- glad you liked the movie! -- but this is the kind of expectation that I would like to see changed, that old films didn't look good.

They did. They had excellent camera and optics, great post production processes, and great sound (even if not in a specialized multi-channel playback format).

You can still make a crappy looking film with modern technology.

He probably did what I did. I watched the entire movie and when I went to put the disc away I found I had been watching the regular bluray disc.

Yeah, it's a shame it's been slathered in ugly revisionist teal (The Final Cut, I mean, in any format), but otherwise it looks great.

I recently watched my 5 disc Collector's Edition BD before selling it on eBay and I caught The Final Cut 4K UHD last night for the first time and for the most part i'd have to agree with you. I think the old Blu-ray did cover most of it. Whatever the case I was quite impressed, the black levels were amazing and really, this was enough to make Blade Runner ~feel new again. Though I do think the increased contrast could make the details seem better and there were a few times where they went overboard with the blacks.

.....Anyhow I made a few bucks so I am a happy camper. vv

[Show spoiler]Bought the 4K set which came with a totally mint slipcover for $19.52 after tax sold UV for $4 net= $15.52
Sold 5-disc set on eBay for $36.52 net after fees and shipping
$36.52 - $15.52 = I got paid $21.00

I am going to watch the 4K disc again tonight but I kinda wished I still had the old BD so I could A/B' the 2. Has anyone here <done this?

Great excuse to watch the film again knowing what the blu ray looked like while still fresh in the mind, then leaving your jaw wide open while watching the UHD. .

Was the fifth disc that was taken out of this release the other cuts of the film?
