It's funny they said that but then announce something like The Offering. Granted, Kino is just distributing for someone else but, still.

The Japanese Blu-ray is Region Free, though.

I love British noir. They have just enough of a different feel to them from their Hollywood counterparts to make them intriguing.

And even if the Japanese Blu-ray wasn't region free it just happens to be that Japan is Region A just as the Americas.

Quickly saw that No Orchids picture and thought it was a digibook and almost had to get a new pair of pants.
Oh man, if any label would be a prime candidate for a nice line of digibooks, it would be Kino. One can only hope!

I thought movies like Rolling Vengeance or Stone Cold Dead might've been considered lowbrow but I've got them both on Kino Blu-rays (thanks, BTW).

We appreciate the enthusiasm, but we've had lots of experience releasing these B and C movies. The original announcements are always received well, lots of "day ones" but the overall sales numbers for these are anywhere from fair to bad and some very bad. Titles like Stone Cold Dead and many others were acquired because there was an existing HD master, otherwise we would've passed on them. Most of these remaining unreleased CANNON/MGM/ORION titles and lesser UA/AIP titles are without HD masters, making them very risky acquisitions.

Cinema74, Rawhead Rex was one of the most highly requested horror films and The Pit is also a no-brainer. Rawhead Rex is one of our best selling titles of all time and The Pit has been a very strong performer. There's a big difference between these two films and the un-acquired MGM titles like Panga, which everyone else has also passed on. While 4 major labels were bidding heavily on Rawhead Rex and we're very happy that we ended up outbidding everyone.

We just released Platoon Leader double featured with Soldier Boyz. We had to pay for a new HD master for PL and SB already had one. We looked at the numbers for Avenging Force which was very good and River of Death which was fair and hoped Platoon Leader would end up somewhere in between, but it actually ended up doing worse than River of Death. In hindsight, we would've skipped this release.

Will we continue to take chances on some of these? Yes, but we have to more careful, the packaged media business is getting worse every year, making these types of acquisitions very risky.

Scream should have grabbed Panga and did a complete Curse collection since they released Curse 1 and 2, now I fear Panga won't see a release as it would probably be a poor seller as Kino Lorber Insider said. Although with some of the obscure stuff Scream has been releasing I'd think Panga starring Christopher Lee would sell better than something like Rockula or Superbeast that they're putting out in the coming months.

For those who don't know Panga was also released under the title Curse III: Blood Sacrifice.

Just to put it out there I actually buy these releases on Day 1 95% of the time, unless some unforeseen expense comes up like car maintenance or something that eats up my movie buying money.

Stone Cold Dead didn't sell well because you released a cut version. Kino needs to factor in things like that when they look at sales. When Kino screws up, its going to affect sales. All the people that said "day one" expected the uncut version.

uncut version? What was cut? Are you referring to the Canadian theatrical release or some obscure version released for a week somewhere that hardly anyone saw (kind of like the Death Wish 2 controversy a couple years back)

Its second lead is Paul Williams...I assure you it being cut was not the problem. Gotta think outside the box of this little world called Blu-ray.com.

It's missing the opening scene that's depicted on the cover. Just so happens to be Scream Queen legend Linnea Quigley's only screen-time in the film. Yes, its exclusion affected sales.

If this "little world" (and other enthusiast forums) didn't affect sales, Kino wouldn't have a paid employee posting regularly.

It's disheartening to read that physical media sales are getting worse with each passing year. You wouldn't think that to be true judging by the ever-increasing release schedules you see labels coming up with but I won't deny the appeal of being able to stream something any time you want and not have to deal with physical media storage issues. The only problem with streaming is typically you're only going to find better-known films available so films like One Dark Night or Damnation Alley will remain out of reach. I fear the day we go full-streaming because that'll be the day the home video industry will have fully - and officially - died

The 1980 Dimension Pictures U.S. release added an opening sequence in which a prostitute, played by a young Linnea Quigley, is shot to death in her shower. This is also intact on the original VHS release by Media Home Entertainment, but not the original Canadian version.

So the scene wasn't part of the original film, but was added later (shot by a different director/crew?) just to add more skin for the overseas market? Linnea Quigley shower scenes are always a welcome addition to any film, but in this case, haven't Kino given us the original theatrical film, as the director intended?
