Gaming, yes I fully agree. General TV watching is just fine on and OLED but if you lean towards a specific channel for long periods day in day out then yeah, I’d go LCD too probably.

As I’ve said, we are pretty spoiled right now with how good the upper tier TVs are these days. ![]() Quote:
I think we all "get it" here. Glad that we can come together and not let a few bullies on either side cause us to unnecessarily argue. All good, brothers! ![]() |

With several newer 8K TVs being showed at CES a few weeks ago, what would be a good estimate of when we start seeing the first 8K Blu-ray Discs?

Even if we do, I’m pretty much out at this point. 4K is the final physical format I’m buying into. Unless I come into copious amounts expendable cash and can set up a true gigantic home theater setup I believe more pixels and or another variation of HDR is a total waste. What’s going to be the selling point, especially for catalog titles with 8K? As much as I’m enjoying the UHD releases of some films I wouldn’t enjoy my standard Blu Ray less if UHD went away.
We’ll see but they’re gonna have a helluva time getting the masses to once AGAIN rebuy all their gear for yet another "format". Good luck. |

The selling point is likely to be glasses-free 3D. That tech is still a long way off, though.
But most film won't even scan at 8K, and the improvements from 4K won't be worth it for home video for any studios to go to the trouble. 99% of things these days are done in 2K. So it won't even be a case like 4K, where it takes ages but things eventually start coming out. There simply won't ever be any 8K content, at least not for the home. |

What's the point of 8K broadcast?
It'll have applications commercially - big screens at sporting events and concerts, digital advertising boards, that sort of thing - but even at 2K your average home viewer is maxed out on resolution and 4K gets most home theatres. I can't see anyone deciding it's worth the cost. |

8K is not happening anytime soon at the customer level. Your eyes won't even be able to tell the difference anyways. |

4K Blu-ray discs are not even 2 years ago (1st of March 2016). And yes, these folks talking about when 8K will be available is quite funny, knowing that most of them will not see any difference compared with 4K. Hollywood's movies are still mastered (most of them) in 2K, and i don't expect a change in the near-future.
