Default Questions about 2 PS3's in one house

Hey gang I just got a second PS3 of which I am going to upgrade the HD to 500GB seeing how easy it is but I have a question about my PSN? Will I create an anomily by having two accounts in the same house. Then technically I can be logged in twice (which I did in the past) on the network . How does that affect stuff like playing COD online etc...Should I just created a whole new PSN idenity? Suggestions? Help? Thanks all.

if you log in a new PS3 it knocks you off the other. It's completely fine to do.

Have one id to play games on the second system and then your main id with your credit card info and serious info like that.

This way, you really only have to be concerned with one PS3 if you are inclined to have visitors or party guests or whatever could cause a problem.

I'm sure you will figure out what is best for you.

Enjoy your expanded rig.

Thanks gang. I like the idea of having 2 accounts, think thats the route I'll go. So I can technically trasfer my COD5 stats over to the NEW ID, Right? I've ranked up twice already, would be nice to keep that info and continue under a new ID?

I believe that the stats are restricted to you PSN ID account that you've played on. So, what you would do is log into whichever system you will be playing COD5 on with the PSN ID that you have already been using since you got your first PS3. Essentially, you will want to have 2 accounts on each PS3. One account for you to game on and the other for guests/visitors/other family member to use. That way, whichever system you are on, you will be working on YOUR PERSONAL stats. Just always make sure that the system you are on is logged in with the proper account.

Exactly, and if you want to carry on playing your games on the other PS3 get a USB stick and copy the game save data to the other PS3. Just remember that if you go back to the other PS3 repeat the process so its up-to-date.

Anything Rock Band related will not work like this though... just to forewarn you. That save data is all restricted to one specific system.

Really? Thats interesting.

Also for all you Singstars out there (its my wife's, i swears it!!! ) you cannot download your extra tracks onto another PS3. It just won't let you.

Same reason. Because of the DLC nature of the content and the "unlock songs" nature of the game, they have copyright restricted the content so that people don't have the opportunity to freely pass around copies of their paid purchases and/or cheat the game for others. They want you to earn the respect that a real band earns. You can't just be a successful band by having someone else come in and give you instruments that will make you instant professionals.

HOWEVER! Any content that you have purchased can be redownloaded to your other PS3 using the same PSN account! So, Singstar and Rock Band fans can download the songs onto the other PS3 in your house no prob... or they should be able to, at least in theory. I don't have 2 PS3 units to test it out.

Bare with me, not sure I get this. Your saying that if I save COD5 data for transfer use the only way I can use it is to set up with the same name, correct? I can't use a new PSN ID and stil retrieve the data. If thats true. Bummer. But I guess it keeps the integrity of the game.

With COD5 you might actually be able to do it. I don't have the game so I can't tell you personally if the game save data is transferrable over PSN accounts. However, we were trying to specify that 'Rock Band' and 'Singstar' game save data are not transferrable between SYSTEMS (despite the same account name). However, because of the PSN account itself, those two games will allow you to download any PS Store content again for free via your "download list" so that the content will be available on your other PS3 as well.
