Is it as good as a physical disc? Depends on the source, but I enjoy both whenever I want in my room. While my cable might be crappy, my internet isn't.
I don't think that I fully fall under the category of those who this is directed at. While I am very pro-disc for content that I am buying, I'm not opposed to watching content through cable or through services like Netflix and Hulu.
And as I've also said before elsewhere, while quality is a major factor for me in collecting physical media, so is the control that I have over my collection as a result.

So I'm not necessarily demanding the utmost quality in each and everything that I watch. Yes, it is certainly optimal to have as high of quality as possible as often as possible. But there are other priorities that are factored in.

As for watching via cable or via a streaming service, I don't know if I notice a huge difference between my cable service and watching things in HD through Netflix. But even if Netflix, when working at full quality, is better overall than watching the same content on cable, I do tend to get quality dips when watching content through streaming services that I don't get when watching through cable. Once in a while an issue may occur through my cable service (i.e. a picture briefly turning to some scrambled digital boxes), but it's rare. So for me, if the same content is available through cable and a streaming service, and all other aspects are equal (i.e. one isn't edited down or something like that), I would actually prefer to watch it through cable for a more consistent experience, even if the quality is less than Netflix or Hulu during times when a dip is not happening.

I am probably in the "pro disc' camp, although I have more digital movies then I do movies on disc. I also stream my cable through PS Vue.

The reason I am "pro disc" is because I want my movies to be the best quality possible without any fluttering in quality. By comparison, the PS Vue picture quality isn't very good. I use it mainly to watch soccer live. I tried to watch the X-Men TV show on FOX, and I had to give up because the picture quality was so poor. If I really want to see something, I won't stream it through such an inferior service like that.

Not true... Dolby Vision has been proven to be superior picture on VUDU versus the same movie on Blu-ray HDR-10...

You know I’m discussing films, as in that case we are talking home cinema.

Well here we are again, Disc or Digital, and it all falls back to Bandwidth and access set up. We are at a point were Streaming HD is Fantastic if you have the proper Bandwidth and set up. I have no problems with my Streaming Movies, and to me it's Disc Like Quality. I had people over for a Movie Night, and it was all Streaming with nothing but praise. Even though I still have a lot of Discs I don't play them anymore. Streaming HD is here to stay and it's only getting better!

LOL it's like you can't read. I've been streaming all night and it's using 10 of my 230Mb/s. Clearly all I need is more bandwidth and it'll look better. /s

Any other forum I read, you would have been banned already.

Yep, this thread needs to be merged. As it is the same old argument in a new thread. I sent in a request, but it apparently fell on deaf ears

Finally I don’t think I’m better than anyone else but if it fits your hateful agenda, go for it. Whatever makes you happy.

Steedeel, I don't hate you or alchav21, but I don't like you either. I think both of you hurt the discussions because both of you live in a frickin' bubble. I'll let that lie there though and move on.

I utilize both formats and see the advantages of both. However there are so many things to factor in when it comes to streaming. You can pay to bump up your bandwidth speed, but that doesn't mean that's what the app is actually using it. Most of them tap out at around why, 25 Mbps?

I just checked my Netflix app on my KS8000 and it's connection speed is 21.29 Mbps. I'll be honest, have no idea what the hell that means, but I will say everything looks good when I play it. On the flip side, I've had nothing but problems when it came to HULU, but I know others who love it.

So streaming experiences definitely shift depending on what state or part of the world you are at. Which kind of freaks me out as my wife and I are considering uprooting our family to another state. However, my family comes first and it is a wonderful opportunity for her if we take that leap of faith.

Why would you want to do that? Sounds like you have trouble concentrating on films? Not a criticism just a question.

So you want me to change my views to suit everyone else? That’s not me. Sitting on fences has never been my style. I happen to think Digital is disruptive to HQ A/V and I have not changed my opinion in the last few years for reasons I have already stated.

What does that have to do with "Convenience comes before quality"??

Most folks outside of the usual AV forums are looking for convenience and streaming has started steamrolling physical discs. Most folks also don't care as much about picture quality, as folks on sites like this. Let alone would they care, or even know what HDR 10 vs. Dolby Vision is.

Streaming will be the new norm sooner than many think.

As far as quality goes it's good enough (pretty great actually/could probably be fooled a few times during A/B), on my monitors, viewing distance, old eyes etc.

I also like having a bunch of movies in my pocket and sharing with my family.

However when i'm settled in i will never hesitate to grab the disc first if I have it.

Conclusion: BOTH options are fantastic.
In my situation i usually only have a few hours of "me time" and I have to balance that between different interests.

It's not to do with concentration, it's when you want to watch a particular scene but would otherwise not bother if you had to go get the disc just to watch something for 5 minutes. It's particularly more useful when it comes to special features. Why pop in the disc to watch a mere 10 minute interview when you can do so with much more ease digitally.

It just sounds like clutching at straws to find reasons to champion digital to me.
If I am sitting down to watch something, I am watching it. Not arsing around with features or clips.

Picture quality with streaming will inevitably improve in the future. So will the sound.

Physical format will eventually cease to exist.
