The fact there’s no listing for this on BASE yet makes me think WB are going to make the UK wait for a boxset of all three films later in the year like they did with Harry Potter. Which, tbh, I don’t mind. I’d rather have all three in a nice boxset than separately.

2018 is the 15th anniversary of the sequels, so I hope they're not being totally ignored. Trilogy and Animatrix would be splendid. The nostalgic in me would love Enter the Matrix to get remastered for current-gen consoles, but I game so rarely that I'd probably skip it anyway lol

Well, I did own the trilogy on the old HD-DVD format but never bothered to get the blu-ray version, so timing is perfect for an upgrade.
I don't mind the sequels, they serve their purpose for some awesome scenes: Trinity highway chase Neo saving the keymaker on the truck Monica Belucci Neo vs Agent Smith clones Sentinel attack on Zion |

What was the new color timing version of the film mastered on? Was it a DI? If the only source for the original color version is on Super 35 then I'd be pleasantly surprised if they actually go back and make a new scan of those. It's probably more friendly to their bottom line if they go with whatever DI exists for the newer version though.
Ideally they'd go all out and include both versions on separate discs but that's unlikely to happen of course. I'd buy it if they did though. |

I asked if a DI was created when they prepared the blu-ray release (scanned the film and colored it digitally), but kinda didn't get a clear answer. Some people say there was no DI created for the film. And originally there was no DI, because it was finished photochemically. But other sites, and I don't know how legit there are and what their sources are, claim there's one.
I'll take any color timing, as soon as it fixes crushed blacks and blown-out highlights. And if it's the authors' decision. |

Yes, aside from the new timing wrecking the skin tones in some shots it did some very funky things with the blacks and the highlights too, sharpness looks a bit overbaked also. If they use that transfer then yikes, watch out.

Boosted contrast blew up highlights and crushed blacks, not green tint.
Also, greens of the Matrix world were in the film right from the start, but they didn't look as sickly as they do on the blu. The Wachowski said something along the lines of they tinted lights blue and green for respective worlds. It seems to me they influenced colors of the film with natural means initially, maybe that's why it didn't look so over-the-top green. |

Drop the political/social issue talk.
Not only is it against forum rules, but the sex and gender of the filmmakers has absolutely no bearing on this 4K release. Any further issues and suspensions/bans will be issued. |

Apparently 150 prints of the original 1999 run were done using Technicolour's dye-transfer process, I'd give up a kidney to view one of those.

I'm deleting all prior posts of mine in this thread. Hoping for a 4K remaster with original cinematic colour timing and not the revised with with blown out highlights and the green sequel filter. For THE MATRIX, of course.

The AC article (yes, them again) which mentions that ^ titbit is up for anyone who wants to take a gander, and interestingly enough the DP Bill Pope does mention using a green filter on the lights and/or dialling in a bit of green during the colour timing on the Matrix scenes. But for whatever reasons it comes through like a brown wash on the old transfer.
Hopefully we'll end up with something in-between for the HDR grade, bringing back all that highlight detail without sacrificing the piercing brightness that the Wachowskis (see, it's not difficult ![]() |

![]() I've forgotten if any of the bonus features in the below set covered the three video games. Enter The Matrix, THE MATRIX: Path of Neo (IMO superior to the sequels), THE MATRIX Online. The latter which continued the story after the Trilogy. I'd have to look on DVDCompare.net ![]() |
