I didn't notice anything like that at all
![]() https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t#post14539348 I think there's a bit of grain processing smudginess that's built into these DIs for sure, it was very noticeable on Hallows pt 1 but other than that...? https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...7#post14572407 |

But hard to explain with what I was seeing with Goblet in regards to the smudginess and softness in motion. But it just didn't look right. I wish I could photograph some of the scenes, but not sure my Galaxy 8 will capture it properly. Maybe I will still try or find timestamps. |

Nevermind. I found my answer here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=528
I guess the Extendeds are only available on BD in the US. So no extended 'Philosopher's Stone' on BD. |

For example, on the blu, I like the contrast and brightness of skin tones/the paper/backgrounds and saturation in the green floo powder...But on the UHD, I prefer the last two caps and the more natural (not weird purple) skin tones. I'm also seeing crushed blacks in the UHD more than the blu. |

The difference in contrast in those last two shots is amazing.

Thanks for the caps. Even with a 1080p monitor i can see that the UHD BD is far superior in term of details compared to the BD.

When it comes to comparing UHD-BD to BD, why do most people compare with SDR as opposed to HDR? Is it to show the true quality on the UHD-BD without any of the HDR (like apples to apples)? Was just curious as to why they're compared that way. Guessing they look even better with HDR, right?

I received a question reg. "missing details" in the green fire shot as compared to the BD and decided to show you what is happing with SDR conversion and what everyone should always be aware of.
![]() top to bottom: target display nits 120, 200, 380, 1000, 10.000 left vs. right: compressed vs. clipped highlights ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I think the 120 nits vs. 200 nits will answer some "crushed blacks" comments. 120 nits (that's the min value) should be closer to the BD, but is imo worse than the 200 nits default, because it clips too early imo. With clipped vs. compressed you can clearly see what gets compressed in the compressed version. But, like I said before, clipped tends to look like shit with 200 nits shots. ![]() Top to bottom you can see how the clipping disappears and how the highlights become visible again. Other than that, I always welcome comments reg. HDR highlights that got lost in the SDR conversion. Unfortunately, one cannot really avoid this with SDR shots and HDR shots are not very helpful either until everyone has a HDR monitor. I hope this will help understanding the HDR=>SDR shots better. It's all new to me as well and the main focus should be on detail anyway (even though I think that the SDR conversion does give you at least a very good idea reg. color and contrast as well). |

Superb post, and it proves what I've been saying for a while about the black level of HDR caps also being affected by the SDR conversion. Okay, it's more that the gamma is what's being changed in the varying SDR transforms but the net result is the same, with more of a "crush" to the blacks the further out you go. These images are only 8-bit sRGB too (sRGB is basically the exact same gamut as 709) so while they do indeed illustrate the colour differences between old and new they're still not wholly indicative of the 10-bit P3 mastering.
Basically everything apart from sheer spatial resolution should be taken with a pinch of salt in SDR converted caps. Great for a quick looky-see, utterly lousy for gauging the true extent of the HDR. I'm not having a pop at you andreas, I've been saying this for a while now: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...6#post12937666 Last edited by Geoff D; 02-11-2018 at 07:04 PM. |

Hi guys I’m from the U.K., I’m lookin* to get digital copies of the 4K films, how do I redeem the U.K. codes to get them into iTunes, I know the US version goes into VUDU and then ports to iTunes in 4k, but what about the U.K. version? Flixster in the U.K. as far as I know doesn’t do 4K. Can I put the U.K. versions into Vudu and use on my US ITunes account? I know the first film has a different name, who would I have to contact about that if it’s at all possible?
