So I must've been living in a cave for the last few years. I just learned that the Wachowski brothers are now sisters and have changed their names. This was extremely confusing because before I learned of it, I was looking for a movie to watch and saw one directed by Lilly & Lana Wachowski. I'd never heard of them before and assumed they were the daughters of one, or both, of the Wachowski bros. And then I looked at the info for Cloud Atlas, which I haven't yet seen, and it said it was also directed by Lilly & Lana, and I was sure it was directed by the bros, but I just assumed I was wrong and didn't think much more about it. But then tonight I was looking on The Matrix page cause I'm really jazzed about it getting a 4K release and I notice that it states that it was also directed by Lilly & Lana. This is the point at which I became confused because I knew with certainty that it was directed by Larry & Andy, but the contrary info caused me to doubt myself and think I'm starting to get early onset dementia or something. Anyways, after a little digging, I discover that the bros are now transwomen with different names.
I have no comment to make about their personal choices, but I am a bit annoyed that movies written & directed by them before the change are having the names changed. Do you guys think the 4K release is going to have the Wachowski bros or the Wachowski sisters credited on the artwork? |

I didn't... I was just stating a fact. Don't even know if WB would go to the trouble and expense of changing the credits unless asked by the filmmakers.

While a "stage" name is certainly much different than a given name and directors don't really need a unique identifier like actors do I still think that when it comes to movies/TV that contributors should be forever credited by whatever name they had when they created it in the first place.
On the other hand, I wouldn't be overly concerned if an artist wanted to have everything be the same name for consistency's sake. The issue with the Wachowskis is a first, as far as I know, and is different than an actor changing a stage name or getting married. |
