Thing is, there's a chance they're only doing the first movie to see if there's enough interest in the franchise to remaster the sequels. If everyone holds out for all three, it might not sell well enough for Warner to warrant doing the rest.

So they're not giving us the sequels right away? Lame.

Guess I'll hold off on the first one for now, unless there's some insanely good deal for it. (Or I wait long enough and it eventually becomes clear that the sequels aren't ever getting UHDs lol)

I stopped day-one-ing, because no title is safe from a screw-up. But The Matrix is an exception.

This all mere fantasy at this point. What's the point of the "Wish List" section if not for these sorts of threads?

Really hope we're not stuck with just the first one for too long.
Yep, disappointing anyway.....for now I keep my order.

I hope we don't get the color-corrected mess of the original Blu-Ray. The lack of the green tint while in The Matrix was such a travesty. Also, one of the Matrix Trilogy Blu-Rays had a manufacturing defect. I think it was Reloaded? I hope that doesn't happen again. :P

Revolutions. It’s during the final Smith/Neo fight. I thought later versions of the BD corrected it, though. (It was in the Ultimate Set, or whatever.)

Yes, I bought the BD two-pack of Reloaded and Revolutions for cheap to get the corrected disc (having already got the BD trilogy set) and then returned it with the old disc inside it, BWAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!!

IIRC, there was an encoding error during the final fight between Smith and Neo. I never saw it in motion, just in screenshot form, and I’m assuming it only lasted a single frame. It’s during that series of slow-motion shots where they’re fighting in the warehouse and practically silhouetted against the big green window.

EDIT: Aaaaaaand two other people already beat me to it. That’s what happens when you take too long to write a post.

Anyway, yeah, I never got around to picking up the ultimate collection in any form (dvd, hddvd, blu-ray or otherwise). The original dvd releases of the movies and The Animatrix is as far as it ever went for me. Never even saw The Matrix Revisited, and I still remember when that got its own snapper-case dvd release during that four-year stretch between the original and the sequels. I’ve always been curious to delve into all those in-depth extras. It would be nice if they ported everything over to an eventual 4k collection, even if all the extras are stuck in standard def (their resolution isn’t mentioned in the official review on this site).

Why is Warner Bros. taking such a conservative approach to the UHDs for these movies while also releasing recent animated DC movies on the format? I would be shocked if demand for a Matrix UHD was less than Batman and Harley Quinn.

I don't know, but maybe the sequels didn't sell as good when the first movie was offered as a standalone.

How was this released on BD for the time? As a set or separates? Cannot recall.

Because those were day & date releases and not catalog remasters/re-releases.

I was always under the impression that the original Matrix movie was a partial DI back in ‘99 like the theatrical release of FotR.

Was I completely mistaken in thinking this?

Also, were the sequels only a partial DI (the highway scene in Reloaded) and photochemical for everything else? The dvd transfers of the sequels exhibited what I would call “filmic anomalies” like gateweave, even in shots that looked 100% cg.

That's an interesting take. It was shot on film though, so perhaps ocurred in digitisation process. I hate the grading on Reloaded. So OTT.
