Because, like I've explained, that was the established standard for decades of movie and theater reviews.

Okay, I'm hijacking my fiancee's laptop to elaborate on my thoughts (I ruined my own last week by spilling beer on it).

Anyway, I'm a massive fan of the games, so that obviously factors into my enjoyment of the film and makes me a teeny weeny bit biased. Alicia Vikander isn't just good as Lara, she's great as Lara. The trailers don't do her justice. She's charismatic, arguably more so than the Lara of the rebooted games (who has her moments but is bland for the most part idgaf). There's little moments throughout, like the camera trailing behind Lara as she races out of a collapsing tomb, which gave my inner fanboy's boner a good ol' tug.

The three acts are clearly defined. The first is set largely in London and does an admirable job of fleshing out Lara's character. There's some questionable music along the way, mind you, and there's one too many flashbacks to Daddy Croft performing opposite a Young Lara who cannot act for toffee, but on the whole, it's good shit. Act Deux is basically a PG-13 'best of' compilation of scenes from the 2013 reboot. Act Trois conjures up the spirit of TR beautifully, with spike traps, puzzle-solving, and chasm leaping galore.

I honestly thought the writing was solid across the board. Nothing that's going to garner a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination, obviously, but I don't think I ever winced at a terrible line, which is something of a rarity when it comes to tentpole action films. Maybe if this had a lot more quips, it'd be receiving glowing reviews. Lololololololololololololol. But srsly, apart from a couple of problems inherent with the source material (like Lara recovering from her first kill mighty fast), I thoroughly enjoyed it. Everybody see this, please, so that we can get Tomb Raider 2.

I watched this last night and thought it was decent. I was a bit annoyed that it takes longer than I would like to get into the adventure and tomb raiding. But once I viewed the flick as Lara Croft's superhero origin story (y'know, the kind where you just have to slog through all the character development and plot exposition), I liked it well enough.

Some of the videogamey parts of the movie are a bit silly, but there's no real getting around that.

All in all, it's a decent reboot for the series and it was a good time at the movies. I'll be much more interested in seeing what they can do with a sequel without having to be bogged down with needing to tell an origin story.

Yeah they need to establish some exposition first. 2005's King Kong takes about an hour to get to the island.

What a ridiculous response. I specifically stated survival so if Wolves/bears were made the main villain, it would be about her staying alive from them.
How does that equal gun happy animal murder for 2 hours?

And besides how did movies like The Grey get made then if people were worried about the idea of killing wild animals?.

In a survival situation, you are not just going to see a hungry pack of wolves and lay down infront of them and start seasoning yourself, are you?.

try watching the extended cut. You basically live their trip in real time. Takes you 3 weeks to reach the Island.

So the consensus is that fans of the 2013 reboot and TR fans in general will totally dig this. Those not in the know will not like this at all, which explains why this movie is split.

The only people I've so far encountered that "hate" it also have to make the comment that Vikander isn't busty enough, so I'm not giving them much credence at this point. Yes it drags at a few small points but the action is always picking up and Vikander acts her ass off.

Theater had double the crowd of Ghost in the Shell so I think and hope it'll do alright.

If the film underperforms and we don't get a sequel, I'm gonna commit genocide.
[Show spoiler]I wanna see Alicia Vikander kicking Kristin Scott Thomas' ass.

Decent enough, 7/10. Some good action here and there, wish Walton would have chewed the scenery a bit more though as the villain.

A SJW reviewer from IGN criticized the movie because all the men in the movie either flirt with Lara or want to kill her and that's a problem with her apparently. She also criticized that there weren't enough women in the movie. I won't even bother linking the review as I don't want the review to get any more clicks than it has already.

Just saw it. I give it a solid 4/5. Entertaining and visually stunning. Accidentally saw a 3D showing which was meh as far as 3D goes. Definitely worth seeing imo and will make a sweet 4k uhd to add to my collection. AV did a nice job plus she didn't have to fake a British accent. She's more than cute enough and is very athletic. She probably weighs 100 lbs soaking wet with small, perky mosquito bites that are fine Great start....hope we get a few more.

Nobody cares....

I have no idea when I'll be watching this. I've become a fairly big fan of the rebooted game series since I've have a blast with both, so I would like to check it out on the big screen.

If anything, she'll be much better for you to look at than Jake Gyllenhaal...
