Blade Runner was an interesting case; no re-mastered blu, though the UHD was culled from the same 4K source master (with HDR grading applied). Warner had reason not to bother.

Anything else we could look to--post 5/17--in terms of catalog titles with previously issued blu-rays that've since gotten the UHD treatment?
Batman Begins???

I really want to see A Clockwork Orange get a UHD release. One of my favourite films. I would by that movie in a heartbeat. You guys reckon we will see it come to the 4k format this year?

I'll buy a UHD release of any* Kubrick film in a heartbeat.

2001, or more precisely, Kubrick, is the reason I'm going UHD in 2018.

My personal favourite is Barry Lyndon.

who are trying to fool here!

When you paid $60 for VHS or even $100 for 2001 Laserdisc.

You did not had a cell phone bill of atleaset $50 a month, besides having regular cable bill of $150, besides having Netflix bill of $11.

During VHS, Laserdisc era, all you paid for was a regular cable box of $39.99 a month. Thats a reason why you afforded that $65 VHS or $100 LD.

I stand by my original comments.

A dollar more than $24.99 you pay for 2001 UHD BRD, you are loosing money.

btw, DUNKIRK is still going for $19.95 at Amazon by itself.

Wow, that's $208.92 in 2018 dollars. So you're right, $40 for a way higher quality version is relatively quite a deal!

I got the same notification. I am a bit disappointed by that, as I was eagerly waiting for May to hit. Hopefully it is not pushed back too much; this is one of those "must have" titles for me.

I didn't have a cable or Netflix bill then and I don't now- I buy physical media, which is what is being compared here. And I fail to see the relevance of my cell phone bill... ?

Then you may not get a lot of sympathy. The MSRP of this release amounts to a fraction of that for any previous top-of-the-line release, and this will be a much better version.

I thought the question was when a different Blu-Ray was included with the 4k copy.
WB could have easily thrown in the original Blu-Ray for BB, strange that they didn't knowing their track record.

They separated the bonus features onto a new disc to match all of the other movies in the collection, so why not re-encode?

What about your rent/mortgage repayments? Your utility bills? Your food bills? Going out on the weekend money. Car maintenance costs. Vet bills. Insurance for this that and the other. You have to take that into account

Here is THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI 4k uhd hdr brd for $16.99 on Amazon.

hopefully I get more sympathy now instead of how 2001 is much bigger classic than TBOTRK excuses.

Prices: they start high and are reduced over time.

Welcome to the retail marketplace.

At that point why not include the remaster on the BD? If they're going to the trouble of creating new discs. I wish WB had done this with all of the Nolan films.

I've posted this before, but when I was a kid back in 1959, Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine used to offer a 50-foot 8mm silent version of The Phantom of the Opera (and I suspect a pretty poor quality print) for $4.95 (or for $5.95 in 16mm). That works out to about 4 minutes of footage, depending upon the projection speed. That $4.95 in 1959 is $42.37 today and that $5.95 for the 16mm version is $50.93 in today's dollars. All for what amounts to a poor quality silent trailer and things you could see on YouTube today for free.

IIRC, back in the 1960s, decades old used 16mm prints of b-movies used to cost around $200 from places like Peerless-Willoughbys. Using 1965 as the baseline, that's $1576 per movie in today's dollars.

Not to mention how much laserdisc and early VHS movies used to cost. A $35 laserdisc in 1980 is $105.35 in today's dollars.

Yes, we've gotten very spoiled (including myself). There are times when I hesitate to spend even $10 on a BD, but the fact is that we should consider $40 for a properly restored UHD version of "2001: A Space Odyssey" to be a bargain.
Thanks very much for this post.

[I'd pay any price just to win you
Surrender my good life for bad
To find you I'm gonna drown an unsung man]

I'd call that a bargain
