It is not for nothing that many people still hail JP as having the most realistic and believable CG animals on film, till date. ILM was still a lab filled with crazy, dedicated artists who wanted to create magic; who wanted to push the limits of realism. It wasn't an industry with too many tools and people at their disposal, as it is today. This is perhaps why despite better technology, the CGI of today feel artificial, for the most part. You need dedicated, passionate artists, not tech geniuses. |

EDIT: I have removed the audio specs from the 4K releases until they are confirmed. Last edited by admiral_akbar; 03-23-2018 at 09:30 AM. |

So much of the stuff that people take as gospel is placeholder info carried over from the previous release. Until these discs get released then we don't know for sure on those specs, so people should take database info with a pinch of salt until it can be confirmed by folks who have the disc in hand.

It's made huge leaps, for sure. I was a big CGI-hater from the late 90's to mid 00's but I've since come around. Even some older stuff like Starship Troopers has really stood up well on UHD.
Not to say there aren't some stinkers--the CGI in Justice League and IT really took me out of those films--but by and large I don't find it to be the distraction I once did. |

I politely disagree with this conclusion. It's been my experience that Amazon cancels preorders because of a substantial error, such as mispricing or a major change in the product itself.

Ugh I really hope it’s not a pricing error cancellation... $59 and change is a great deal.

Have you guys ever watched the credits for a $150-200 million dollar movie? Some of them use upwards of 20-25 different CG companies. Gotta be hard to keep the quality consistent when you are using that many and the movie has a release date that was set in stone years ago.

Yeah, that's got a lot to do with the varying quality of it these days, and ALSO why it isn't all done in 4K for movies. When you've got one main vendor then they can tailor their pipelines appropriately but when you're dealing with a stack of different outfits ranging from god-tier to bargain basement then it's a lot harder to get everyone singing from the same hymn sheet.
